手塚治虫的首部長篇連環漫畫「鉄腕アトム」（原子小金剛）自1951年問世以來，至今已被四次動畫化。

第一次動畫化是1963～1966年於日本富士電視台播放的黑白卡通，當時曾創下全日本平均30%收視率的佳績，其後此片被譯為英文版本，銷往世界各地；1980年12月，中國的中央電視台引進此黑白版本，成為最早在中國電視台播放的日本動畫，播出後廣受歡迎。

第二次動畫化是1980～1981年在日本電視網播出的彩色卡通「鉄腕アトム」，共52集，華視播出的「小戰士」即是這個版本。

第三次動畫化是2003年在富士電視台播出的彩色卡通「ASTRO BOY 鉄腕アトム」，由手塚製作公司（手塚プロダクション）製作。故事裡所設定的原子小金剛誕生日是2003年4月7日，因此這部卡通被安排在原子小金剛生日的前夕，2003年4月6日開始播出，至2004年3月28日為止，一共播映了50集。

第四次動畫化，則是由香港意馬動畫公司（IMAGI）所製作的「原子小金剛」（Astro Boy）3D電腦動畫電影，於2009年10月23日在全世界上映。

1933年（昭和8年）3月1日大泉学園駅に改称
1983年（昭和58年）11月12日橋上駅舎を使用開始。
2008年（平成20年）3月16日松本零士の漫画キャラクター「銀河鉄道999の車掌」を名誉駅長とし、そのFRP製立像を改札内に設置
2009年3月8日から、映画『銀河鉄道999』の主題歌「銀河鉄道999」を発車メロディに採用した。編曲は作曲者であるタケカワユキヒデが担当した
2018年（平成30年）度の1日平均乗降人員は88,104人で、西武鉄道全92駅中第8位。西武鉄道で接続線のない途中駅としては最多
2015年4月4日リズモ大泉学園の整備の一環としてペデストリアンデッキが建設され、その供用に合わせて大泉アニメゲートがオープンした

March 16, 2008 Reiji Matsumoto's cartoon character "Galaxy Express 999 conductor" is honored as station director, and its FRP statue is installed in the ticket gate
From March 8, 2009, the theme song “Galaxy Express 999” of the movie “Galaxy Express 999” was adopted as the departure melody.
In 2018, the average daily number of passengers was 88,104, ranking 8th out of 92 Seibu Railway stations.
April 4, 2015 A pedestrian deck was constructed as part of the development of Rizmo Oizumi Gakuen, and the Oizumi Anime Gate was opened for its use
