~~ 1971.03.26 ~~
On this very day, 50 years ago, a nation was born out of strife and turbulence.
Her name is BANGLADESH, which means “Land of Bengal”.
The birth story of Bangladesh is not all that glorious. It’s cruel, it’s bloody, and it’s heartbreaking.
Every year, the March 26 brings the most tragic reminiscence of our history’s blackest episode that initiated a nine-month bloody war against Pakistan from the night of March 25, 1971. Almost 3 million Bangladeshi people died, and 3,00,000 women were raped during this war.
On the fateful night of 25th March 1971, the Pakistani military junta launched the “Operation Searchlight” and mercilessly killed the Bangalee members of East Pakistan Rifles and police, students and teachers as well as thousands of common people in Dhaka city. This day in Bangladesh is marked as the “Genocide Remembrance Day”.
In the wake of the military crackdown, Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, who became the undisputed leader of the then Pakistan following the massive victory of his party, Awami League, in the 1970 general elections, declared the independence of Bangladesh through the then East Pakistan Rifles wireless at 00-30 am on March 26 in 1971.
And this is how a sovereign was born. After 9 months gruesome war, our beloved freedom fighters secured the victory on 16th December 1971. When the Pakistani Armies realized they wouldn’t win this battle, they abducted 200 Bangladeshi intellectuals including professors, doctors, engineers, directors, writers, artists, journalists on 14th December 1971. They never came back to their families as they were executed en masse.
The birth history of Bangladesh is not just a year long. It’s been instigated at the time when government of Pakistan tried to take away our right to speak in Bengali in 1951. Since then too much blood has been shredded to finally get our independence from Pakistan. It’s literally impossible to capture the whole history in such little space. If you are interested to know more, I would recommend you few books on our liberation war.

【Kylin Painting with an Ode by Shen Du】
Anonymous, Ming dynasty (1368-1644)
Hanging scroll, ink and colors on silk, 90.4 x 45 cm
A record in "Annals of Emperor Chengzu" from the History of the Ming states that in 1414 (the 14th year of Chengzu's Yongle reign) the state of Banggela (Bengala of modern Bangladesh and West Bengal of India) came to the Ming court and presented tribute in the form of an animal called a "kylin (qilin)." As it turns out, the term for this mythical beast was also used in the Ming dynasty to refer to a giraffe, a tribute item originally from Africa.
After Bengala became part of the Ming tributary system in 1408, it maintained close contact with the Chinese court. To commemorate the presentation of this auspicious beast from a distant land, Shen Du (1357-1434) of the Hanlin Academy composed and calligraphed "Eulogy on an Auspicious Kylin," which was illustrated by a court painter. Shen Du's text is transcribed at the top of this painting, and copies were presented to high officials as propaganda to extol the emperor's virtuous rule, as evidenced by the appearance of this auspicious animal.

Video Title: The $1,000,000,000 North Korean Bank Heist
"Bangladesh, February 7th, 2016. The director of the Bangladesh Central Bank got off the elevator on the ninth floor, and headed to the back office of the Accounts and Budgeting Department. This was the most restricted part of the building. He was there to deal with a problem,m one that had been plaguing the office the last few days. You see, the printer wasn’t working, and this was kind of a big deal. It was causing a real disruption. The automated printer, which was hooked up to the bank’s software, was supposed to work round the clock 24/7, printing out the bank’s transaction reports in real-time. Due to this technical glitch however, the printer tray remained empty. Much of the day was spent trying to fix the issue;,and after a great deal of effort there was success. They were able to restart the printer. And so the backlog of transaction reports started rolling out, one by one. Now, it soon became apparent that something wasn’t quite right. There were more statements than expected..."

Viva La Vida (lyrics) by Coldplay:
I used to rule the world
Seas would rise when I gave the word
Now in the morning I sleep alone
Sweep the streets I used to own
I used to roll the dice
Feel the fear in my enemy's eyes
Listen as the crowd would sing
"Now the old king is dead! Long live the king!"
One minute I held the key
Next the walls were closed on me
And I discovered that my castles stand
Upon pillars of salt and pillars of sand
I hear Jerusalem bells a ringing
Roman Calvary choirs are singing
Be my mirror, my sword and shield
My missionaries in a foreign field
For some reason I can't explain
Once you go there was never
Never an honest word
And that was when I ruled the world
It was the wicked and wild wind
Blew down the doors to let me in
Shattered windows and the sound of drums
People couldn't believe what I'd become
Revolutionaries wait
For my head on a silver plate
Just a puppet on a lonely string
Oh who would ever want to be king?
I hear Jerusalem bells a ringing
Roman Calvary choirs are singing
Be my mirror, my sword and shield
My missionaries in a foreign field
For some reason I can't explain
I know Saint Peter won't call my name
Never an honest word
But that was when I ruled the world
I hear Jerusalem bells a ringing
Roman Calvary choirs are singing
Be my mirror, my sword and shield
My missionaries in a foreign field
For some reason I can't explain
I know Saint Peter won't call my name
Never an honest word
But that was when I ruled the world

Eden Kai (16 years old) won the Grand Champion Overall Winner of the 2015 Brown Bags to Stardom talent competition and was also awarded 1st place Instrumental. Eden made history by becoming the first ever instrumentalist to be awarded the grand champion. He performed his amazing acoustic guitar fingerstyle instrumental song “Beautiful Stars” in the biggest talent competition in Hawaii involving all high schools on April 25, 2015 at the Neal Blaisdell Center in Honolulu, Hawaii. This popular event has been a household word in Hawaii since the 1970’s before American Idol or America’s Got Talent giving students an opportunity for stardom.
Eden joins the legacy of famous stars who got their start at this statewide high school competition like Bruno Mars, Jake Shimabukuro, Tia Carrere, Glenn Medeiros, Yuna Ito and others.
Special thanks to Johnny Kai, executive producer of Brown Bags to Stardom, helping to give kids growing up in Hawaii an opportunity to share their talents and gifts, and give them hope that their dreams of stardom can come true.
