#Wheelchair #dancing has taken off in Taiwan in recent years. In 2013, dance teacher Theresa Tsai Hsiu-hui set up the Chinese Taipei City Wheelchair Dance Sport Association when she was urged to by people with disabilities. Many of the group’s dancers became disabled after being stricken with polio when they were children. They dance with each other or are paired up with able-bodied dancers. The dancers get together frequently to practice and regularly give free performances in jails and care homes for #disabled or elderly people. Last year, they gave 68 performances in Taiwan. The group’s dancers have also traveled to many countries to compete and they’ve even won awards. Ms. Tsai tells CNA why she set up the group, how it benefits the polio survivors and other disabled people, and the challenges she faced choreographing the dances when she didn’t know how to use a wheelchair.

Would you believe that I am still pretty much the same weight from 2 months ago? This is why you shouldn’t trust your scales too much when you’re on a fitness journey. I honestly feel strongest and healthiest I have ever been and I’m bursting with energy. I read that caring for your body shouldn’t be a punishment, it should be a gift. I went to bed one night deciding I WILL make a change for myself. On days I didn’t feel as motivated? It didn’t matter because I made a choice and I will commit to it. I have always appreciated and cherished my body for what it has done so I have so much love for it but I knew I also deserved better. I was tired of being tired. While the past year was fantastic, I was ready for a new season in my life. Some of you have noticed I’m extra chirpy these days and I do agree that the exercising helps a lot as it has so many health, mental and beauty benefits.
