He can do blood damage to your characters so if you drag the battle too long, your max hp will get reduce to a disadvantage point that you can no longer battle in. As you can see at the end of the battle, my Serah's max hp is reduced to half.
After you reduce his health under 1/2 he will do mass buff spell and especially regen. Highly recommend you try not to BREAK his gauge until he reach 1/2 then just go all out to kill his remaining health during the BREAK duration.
