และผู้ที่ร่ำรวยสุดในไอร์แลนด์ ในเวลานั้นก็คือชายที่ชื่อว่า “Sean Quinn”

“Sean Quinn” เกิดที่ประเทศไอร์แลนด์ในปี 1947 ในครอบครัวที่ไม่ได้มีฐานะดี
เขาจึงต้องออกจากโรงเรียนตอนอายุ 15 ปี เพื่อมาช่วยงานที่ฟาร์มเล็ก ๆ ของครอบครัว

ปี 1973 คุณ Quinn ในวัย 26 ปี ก็ได้เริ่มค้าขายครั้งแรก หลังจากที่เขาพบว่าที่ดินตรงเนินเขาหลังบ้าน มีหินกรวดที่ใช้ก่อสร้างอยู่ เขาเลยยืมเงินจากเพื่อน 4,500 บาท หรือคือเป็นมูลค่าราว 55,000 บาทในปัจจุบัน เพื่อซื้อเครื่องจักรมาขุดหินและกรวดไปขาย

แต่ในช่วงนั้นเศรษฐกิจของประเทศไอร์แลนด์ยังอยู่ในช่วงฟื้นฟูหลังสงครามโลกครั้งที่ 2 การทำธุรกิจจึงยากลำบากมาก จนกระทั่งมาถึงปลายทศวรรษ 1980 ที่เศรษฐกิจไอร์แลนด์เริ่มฟื้นฟูและกลับเข้าสู่ช่วงเติบโตอีกครั้ง

ปี 1989 คุณ Quinn ได้ต่อยอดมาทำธุรกิจซีเมนต์และคอนกรีต โดยใช้ชื่อว่า Quinn Cement ซึ่งได้กลายเป็นธุรกิจหลักที่สร้างรายได้ จนทำให้คุณ Quinn สร้างตัวขึ้นมาได้จนกลายเป็นเจ้าตลาดซีเมนต์ในประเทศ

หลังจากประสบความสำเร็จในขั้นแรกแล้ว คุณ Quinn ก็ได้ขยายธุรกิจไปสู่อุตสาหกรรมอื่น ๆ อย่างเช่น

โรงงานแก้วและพลาสติก ที่ธุรกิจเติบโตอย่างรวดเร็วจนสามารถขยายโรงงานไปได้ทั่วยุโรป
รวมถึงกิจการโรงแรมอย่าง Quinn Hotel ที่เป็นเจ้าของโรงแรมหรู 7 แห่งทั่วยุโรป

ต่อมาในปี 1996 บริษัท Quinn ก็เริ่มให้บริการทางการเงินอย่างประกัน โดยตั้งเป็นบริษัท Quinn Insurance จนกลายเป็นบริษัทประกันที่มีลูกค้ามากเป็นอันดับ 3 ในไอร์แลนด์ในเวลา 10 ปี

ก่อนที่ในปี 2007 Quinn Insurance ก็ขยายใหญ่ขึ้นไปอีก จากการเข้าซื้อกิจการ Bupa Ireland ซึ่งเป็นบริษัทประกันสุขภาพที่ใหญ่เป็นอันดับ 2 ของไอร์แลนด์ในขณะนั้น

อาณาจักรธุรกิจของคุณ Quinn ที่ขยายไปในหลายอุตสาหกรรม มีชื่อเรียกรวมกันว่า “Quinn Group” ซึ่งถือได้ว่าเป็นหนึ่งในเครือบริษัทที่ประสบความสำเร็จมากที่สุดในไอร์แลนด์

Quinn Group ครอบคลุมกิจการหลากหลาย ทั้งโรงงานวัสดุก่อสร้างและบรรจุภัณฑ์ ประกัน โรงแรม อสังหาริมทรัพย์ ผับ ร้านอาหาร และอื่น ๆ อีกมากมาย จนเมืองที่เป็นที่ตั้งของบริษัท Quinn Group ถูกเรียกว่า “ประเทศ Quinn”

นอกจากนี้ คุณ Quinn ยังถูกยกย่องให้เป็นฮีโรของชาวเมือง เพราะการลงทุนมหาศาล ได้ช่วยพลิกฟื้นจากเมืองที่ไม่มีอะไรเลย ให้กลายเป็นเมืองอุตสาหกรรม ที่สำคัญก็คือช่วยให้เกิดการจ้างงานมากกว่า 8,000 คน

และความสำเร็จของ Quinn Group ก็ทำให้ในปี 2007 คุณ Quinn ในวัย 60 ปีและครอบครัวของเขา มีทรัพย์สิน 1.95 แสนล้านบาท ถูกจัดอันดับจาก Forbes ว่าเป็นคนที่รวยสุดในไอร์แลนด์และรวยเป็นอันดับที่ 164 ของโลก

แต่นอกจากการลงทุนเพื่อขยายธุรกิจให้อาณาจักร Quinn Group แล้ว
คุณ Quinn ได้เข้าไปซื้อหุ้นของธนาคาร Anglo Irish Bank อย่างลับ ๆ ด้วย

Anglo Irish Bank เป็นธนาคารพาณิชย์ขนาดใหญ่ที่มีสาขาทั่วยุโรปและในสหรัฐอเมริกา ซึ่งเติบโตอย่างต่อเนื่องมาตั้งแต่เริ่มก่อตั้งในปี 1964 จากการปล่อยสินเชื่อให้ภาคธุรกิจและอสังหาริมทรัพย์เป็นหลัก

ด้วยความที่คุณ Quinn ทำธุรกิจและยังมีกิจการที่เกี่ยวกับอสังหาริมทรัพย์มากมาย เขาเลยตั้งใจที่จะเป็นหนึ่งในผู้ถือหุ้นใหญ่ของ Anglo Irish Bank โดยเริ่มเข้าซื้อหุ้น Anglo Irish Bank ในปี 2007

แต่ผ่านไปเพียง 1 ปี การครอบครอง Anglo Irish Bank กลับกลายเป็นจุดเริ่มต้นที่ทำให้สิ่งที่คุณ Quinn สร้างมาทั้งชีวิต ต้องจบลง..

ช่วงครึ่งหลังของปี 2008 ตลาดอสังหาริมทรัพย์ในสหรัฐอเมริกาเกิดภาวะฟองสบู่แตก ทำให้ราคาอสังหาริมทรัพย์ร่วงลงอย่างรุนแรงและรวดเร็ว จนกลายเป็นวิกฤติเศรษฐกิจครั้งใหญ่ของโลก
ซึ่งก็ลามมาถึงประเทศไอร์แลนด์ด้วย

Anglo Irish Bank ที่ปล่อยสินเชื่อให้ภาคอสังหาริมทรัพย์เป็นหลัก ก็แน่นอนว่าได้รับผลกระทบหนัก จนทำให้ราคาหุ้นร่วงหนัก

ซึ่งในระหว่างนั้นคุณ Quinn ไม่ได้ตัดสินใจตัดขาดทุน แต่เขากลับมองว่าเป็นโอกาสในการเพิ่มสัดส่วนการถือครองหุ้น Anglo Irish Bank เพราะหวังว่าเมื่อราคาหุ้นฟื้นกลับมาจะทำกำไรได้เป็นกอบเป็นกำ

แต่ด้วยสภาพคล่องของเงินที่คุณ Quinn มีในตอนนั้นไม่เพียงพอ เขาเลยใช้เงินที่ยืมมา อย่างเช่นเงินกู้ เงินของบริษัท Quinn Insurance และที่สำคัญก็คือใช้เครื่องมือทางการเงินที่ทำให้ตัวเขาเองมีอำนาจในการเพิ่มมูลค่าเงินลงทุนมากกว่าเงินทุนของเขา หรือที่เรียกกันว่าการ “Leverage”

ทำให้คุณ Quinn มีสัดส่วนการถือหุ้นของ Anglo Irish Bank เพิ่มขึ้นจาก 5% ไปเป็นกว่า 25%

แต่สุดท้ายแล้วคุณ Quinn ก็คิดผิด เพราะ Anglo Irish Bank โดนผลกระทบจากวิกฤติเศรษฐกิจจนดำเนินกิจการต่อไม่ไหว รัฐบาลจึงต้องเข้ามาช่วยเหลือในเดือนมกราคม ปี 2009 และ Anglo Irish Bank ก็ได้กลายเป็นธนาคารของรัฐนับแต่นั้นมา

เรื่องดังกล่าว ส่งผลให้ราคาหุ้น Anglo Irish Bank นับจากจุดสูงสุดในปี 2007 จนถึงต้นปี 2009 ลดลงกว่า 98%

ซึ่งถ้าการลงทุนนี้ มาจากเงินของคุณ Quinn เองทั้งหมด เขาจะแค่เงินหายในส่วนของการลงทุนใน Anglo Irish Bank แต่เงินที่เขาใช้ในการเพิ่มสัดส่วนการถือครองหุ้น ดันเป็นเงินที่เขายืมมา

สุดท้ายแล้ว คุณ Quinn และบริษัทจึงเป็นหนี้กับ Anglo Irish Bank 9.24 หมื่นล้านบาท และเป็นหนี้กับเจ้าหนี้รายอื่นอีกกว่า 3 หมื่นล้านบาท

เงินส่วนหนึ่งที่คุณ Quinn เตรียมนำมาใช้หนี้ ถูกพบว่าเป็นเงินที่มาจากบริษัท Quinn Insurance ราว 1 หมื่นล้านบาท คุณ Quinn และบริษัท Quinn Insurance จึงถูกปรับราว 130 ล้านบาท และคุณ Quinn ต้องออกจากตำแหน่งบริหารใน Quinn Insurance ไป

แต่นอกจากการนำเงินไปช่วยใช้หนี้แล้ว บริษัท Quinn Insurance ยังมีสัดส่วนการลงทุนในอสังหาริมทรัพย์สูงมาก นั่นจึงทำให้ในปี 2009 Quinn Insurance ขาดทุนจากการดำเนินงานเกือบ 2.5 หมื่นล้านบาท และยังส่งผลให้ Quinn Group ขาดทุนจากการดำเนินงานกว่า 3.4 หมื่นล้านบาท

สถานะทางการเงินที่ย่ำแย่นี้ ก็ทำให้ในเดือนมีนาคม ปี 2010 หน่วยงานที่กำกับดูแลเลยมีคำสั่งให้ Quinn Insurance ขายกิจการให้กับ Anglo Irish Bank และบริษัทประกันของสหรัฐอเมริกาที่ชื่อ Liberty Mutual

ต่อมาในเดือนเมษายน ปี 2011 Anglo Irish Bank จึงเข้าควบคุมกิจการทั้งหมดของ Quinn Group โดยมีคำสั่งให้คุณ Quinn และครอบครัวไม่มีอำนาจบริหารและพ้นจากการเป็นเจ้าของ ส่วนเหล่าผู้บริหารก็ถูกไล่ออก และแต่งตั้งทีมบริหารที่เป็นคนนอกเข้ามาแทน

จนกระทั่งปลายปี 2011 คุณ Quinn ได้ยื่นคำร้องต่อศาลเพื่อขอเป็นบุคคลล้มละลาย แต่ในระหว่างขั้นตอนถูกยึดทรัพย์ เขากลับพยายามทยอยแบ่งขายสินทรัพย์ที่มีค่า เพื่อเก็บเป็นเงินสดก่อนที่จะถูกยึด ซึ่งผิดกฎหมาย เขาจึงถูกศาลตัดสินจำคุก 9 สัปดาห์ ตอนปลายปี 2012

จนถึงปัจจุบันคุณ Quinn ในวัย 74 ปี ได้อาศัยอยู่กับครอบครัวในเมืองเกิดของเขา โดยที่ไม่ได้เป็นมหาเศรษฐีเหมือนเดิมแล้ว แต่เรื่องนี้ก็เป็นบทเรียนให้กับทุกคนได้ดี

เรื่องราวของคุณ Quinn ที่เริ่มทำธุรกิจในจังหวะที่เติบโตไปพร้อมกับเศรษฐกิจของไอร์แลนด์ และใช้กลยุทธ์ขยายกิจการไปสู่อุตสาหกรรมอื่น ๆ เพื่อกระจายความเสี่ยง ไม่ให้พึ่งพากับอุตสาหกรรมก่อสร้างเพียงอย่างเดียว ถือเป็นความสำเร็จที่น่ายกย่อง

อย่างไรก็ตาม คุณ Quinn กลับตัดสินใจทุ่มเงินลงทุนด้วยความเสี่ยงที่สูงมาก ซึ่งไม่ต่างจากการพนันใน Anglo Irish Bank แบบหมดหน้าตัก แถมยังใช้เงินที่กู้ยืมมา ก็ถือเป็นความผิดพลาดขั้นรุนแรง
ที่ได้ทำให้อาณาจักรธุรกิจและความมั่งคั่งที่คุณ Quinn สร้างมากว่า 35 ปี หายวับไปกับตา
ในเวลาเพียง 3 ปี เท่านั้น..

World Suicide Prevention Day (WSPD), celebrated annually on 10 September, is organized by the International Association for Suicide Prevention (IASP) and endorsed by the World Health Organization (WHO). The event represents a global commitment to focus attention on suicide prevention.

The theme of WSPD 2021, “Creating hope through action,” reflects the need for collective, action to address this urgent public health issue. All of us- family members, friends, co-workers, community members, educators, religious leaders, healthcare professionals, political officials and governments- can take action to prevent suicide in the Region.

A total of 468 suicide cases were reported across Malaysia in the first five months of 2021. This number is higher compared to 631 cases reported in the whole of 2020.

Different groups are calling for the decriminalisation of suicide in order to end the stigmatisation of mental ill health in Malaysia as reported in The Star today. (https://www.thestar.com.my/opinion/letters/2021/09/10/call-for-decriminalisation-of-suicide)

Mental health must be approached with compassion, data-driven solutions, and ethical policy-making.

We both have our own routine & we respect each other space. We actually spend most of our time alone~ Just in the vlog it seems like we are together 24/7

? If all expenses paid and no pain at all, what kind of plastic surgery would you girls do?
Love this question! We do get sponsorship offer for plastic surgery and we have kinda high tolerance for pain but we still rejected the offer =) We don’t think we would change a thing~ It’s not that we are happy with everything that we’re born with just that we think we rather learn to love what we are given. That being said, we are not against plastic surgery either.

? With your current income, do you guys be able to make a living on your own?
We survived. LOL~ It’s not a lot but we love what we do and we’ll continue to work hard.

? What happens if you are over 35 and have not married yet?
Good question~ We don’t think it should be an issue. Married or not, it won't change a thing =)

? Is there any tips or book recommended to start reading?
We all have different book preferences. When people say they are not a reader we always think that they have not found the right book. It’s not you, it’s the book LOL So keep searching and keep reading. Don’t feel bad to leave a book if you don’t like it~

? What if one day you two fall in love with the same guy?
It’s not going to happen~ We both have different taste in guys

? If you were to focus on one thing you can improve on, what would it be?
Sue: I would like to improve my sleeping habit. I need to sleep early.
Jo: For work, I want to improve my Photoshop skill. For personal, I want to overcome my fear of crowds.

? What is something which gives you happiness recently?
Jo: Baking cakes & learning crochet
Sue: Exercising & Baking breads

? Places / Country you guys want to travel when C19 ends or safe to travel again?
Jo: Korea
Sue: Taiwan~ Since we’re learning Mandarin, I think Taiwan is the great to practice my Mandarin. Plus, I like Taiwan.

? What’s your preference in guys?
Jo: I like hardworking guys. And also someone who knows how to enjoy life alone and with people too.
Sue: I like animated guys… I’ll leave it as that. LOL

? What made you start your own business? How to solve it when no customer buy?
We started our first business as a side thing. We just love clothings and we thought selling clothing would be fun. When we closed our clothing business down, opening another business seems like a familiar thing to do~
& how to get more customers? You can pay for ads. Get influencers to promote your business. Get family and friends to spread the news.

? Do you guys inspire each other? Who inspire who the most?
We both have different style so we get inspirations from outside sources ( like on Pinterest, YouTube or Instagram)

? How tall are you guys? Both of you look so tall.
We get that a lot. But we are tiny~ 157cm =)

Jo: The cutest thing is when a perfect stranger gave me an extra rose because he saw my then bf only gave me one stalk of rose. lol

? Advice to those who are entering into their 20s?
Jo: If you just entering your 20s, Welcome to adulthood~
My advice … Live & Be happy. Do what you love. Learn about yourself as much as you can. Learn new things. Try new things. and use SPF HAHA!

Sue: This is an exciting time. Like what Jo said, "Learn about yourself as much as you can". It's the time you get to choose what you want to do, what you want to be and be sure to choose wisely who you surround yourself with. .

It’s funny how life works out. Drawing was so integral throughout my entire childhood and early teen years. I used to write and draw my own comics with my cousins. We made our own little club and we would spend our weekends reading each other’s work. Then became life’s distractions like school work, boys, teen things, university, partying, work, marriage, parenthood, divorce and co parenting life. Now I have come back to my roots by drawing again. It’s been a great outlet for me. When I hold my stylus, I only focus on my strokes. It calms me. I’m so thankful for art.
