The statue of Queen Victoria can be found at the entrance of the Victoria Park Soccer Pitch. Here are the facts about the Queen Victoria statue:
1. It was cast in Pimlico, London.
2. It was originally located at the centre of Statue Square, Central.
3. It was unveiled on 28 May 1896, the day officially appointed for the celebration of the 77th birthday of the Queen.
4. During World War II, the statue was taken to Japan to be melted down.
5. The statue was brought back to Hong Kong, and was placed in Victoria Park since 1952.
6. It was said that there had been a misunderstanding with the sculptor regarding which material to use at the time. A decision in favour of marble had been lost in communication.
