最近在美國網路上很常看到Karen這個字，有人留言問小威Karen到底是什麼意思？

所以今天來educate大家一下

其實Karen像mary，jennifer，tiffany，就是一個很常見的英文女生的名字。但Karen在網路上卻又變成了某種刻板印象的代表。有一點類似台灣所謂的「奧客」，但是又涵蓋了更多的讓人討厭的特質。通常我們在美國說一個人是Karen的時候，大多數想要表示的就是她是：

- 白人女生
- 30到60歲之間
- 明明就沒有什麼內涵但卻又有種莫名的優越感
- 口頭禪是「我要找你們的經理」
- 通常是短頭髮
- 通常覺得白人就是比較優秀的種族
- 住在市郊區
- 多數是基督徒和保守派
- 講話很大聲喜歡說很多道理但其實都是狡辯
- 喜歡動不動就提到「這是我的人權」
- 覺得自己被歧視或被欺負但其實自己的行為已經造成別人的不便

我想就是因為這些特質實在是太多又太specific,已經找不到一個適合的形容詞，所以到最後我們就把這種人統稱「karen」。當然我必須說這對原本就叫Karen的女生是有點不公平的，畢竟名字是爸媽取的，應該沒有人希望自己的名字突然變成了一個罵人的話。不過在美國文化裡面好像就是會這樣，例如另外一個英文名字「chad」有時候也可以用來形容白目白人渣男，所以在這個時代幫小孩取名字的時候真的要小心。

然後呢，由於這些日子很多腦殘的美國人因為不喜歡戴口罩鬧出了很多笑話。導致於比較有sense的美國人現在慢慢地也把不想戴口罩的保守派白人女生統稱為Karen. 這些karen的行為被身邊的人錄下來在網路上被瘋傳。他們覺得自己被逼戴口罩實在是很委屈，卻沒有想到戴口罩不但是為了保護自己也是為了保護別人。

因為有些Karen的行為實在是過度瘋癲，導致於這個字也得到了進化。有些時候我們可以使用"super karen" 或是 "mega karen" 來形容比較進擊版的Karen.
