—————
Elephant Gym (Taiwan)
Taiwan has a robust indie music scene, and math rockers Elephant Gym is one of the region’s leading bands. Formed in 2012 by siblings KT Chang and Tell Chang, along with Chia Chin-Tu, there are few words that don’t describe Elephant Gym. Their music, marked by odd time signatures and intervals, is unpredictable and diverse – moments of relaxed and breezy melodic bliss are often interspersed with bursts of chaotic, frenetic, and borderline punkish noise. It’s well worth it to try and keep up.
Elephant Gym set themselves apart from their peers in the math-rock world in their choice of lead instrument – rather than sticking with guitars, the genre’s staple, the band opted to build most of their work around KT’s bass playing abilities. She is adept at finger tapping, a highly complicated technique that yields beautiful, lulling, and rich polyphonic sounds. Tell and Chia support her on the guitar/keyboard and drums respectively. Their music is mostly instrumental, although they do sometimes feature guest vocalists – KT even pulls double duty as lead vocalist on some tracks but has said that she doesn’t like singing. The band has a handful of excellent releases under their belt, clearly laying out how their sound has matured and developed over the years. It doesn’t take much to see why Elephant Gym is one of the most exciting emerging math rock bands not just in Asia, but globally.

Stringjoy Handmade Guitars Strings - from USA
Handmade quality, lasting tone.
I know what you’re thinking: 10 to 48? I thought Light strings went 10 to 46? Yeah well, let me explain…
We do a lot of experimenting around here with different string gauges — I know, we’re nerds — and we love to run the tension math to see how certain sets perform. Through all that, we’ve discovered two inherent problems in a typical 10-46 “Light” set: there are big dips in tension on both the 2nd and 6th strings (.013 and .046, respectively). So, with our Balanced 10s, we fix all that by using a .0135 and a .048 instead.
The result is a set of strings that plays evenly across the entire fretboard and intonates better. So if you’ve been a classic 10s player, you have to give these a try. Seriously.

The 1996 NBA Draft is one of the best drafts of all time.
It gave us one of the best players ever (Kobe Bryant), one of the most entertaining players ever (Allen Iverson), and a host of future Hall of Famers. Three of the 10 highest-earning players of all time came out of the 1996 draft.
Today, many of these players are still involved in basketball in some capacity. But there's also a math teacher, an ESPN analyst, and an ex-investment banker. Only one of them — Kobe — is still playing.
The 1996 NBA draft was the 50th draft in the National Basketball Association (NBA). It was held on June 26, 1996 in East Rutherford, New Jersey. The draft was broadcast in the United States on the Turner Network Television. In this draft, NBA teams took turns selecting college basketball players and other first-time eligible players, such as players from high schools and non-North American leagues. The Vancouver Grizzlies had the highest probability to win the NBA draft lottery, but since they were an expansion team along with the Toronto Raptors, they were not allowed to select first in this draft. The team with the second highest probability, the Philadelphia 76ers won the lottery and obtained the first selection. The Toronto Raptors and the Vancouver Grizzlies were second and third respectively.
Allen Iverson, a sophomore from Georgetown, was selected first overall by the Philadelphia 76ers.
It is widely considered to be one of the deepest and most talented NBA drafts in history, with one-third of the first round picks later becoming NBA All-Stars. The draft class produced three players who won NBA MVP awards (Kobe Bryant, Allen Iverson, Steve Nash), seven other drafted players who became All-Stars (Shareef Abdur-Rahim, Ray Allen, Žydrūnas Ilgauskas, Stephon Marbury, Jermaine O'Neal, Peja Stojaković, Antoine Walker), and one undrafted All-Star (Ben Wallace), for a grand total of 11 All-Stars. Moreover, eight players from this draft class have been named to at least one All-NBA Team, the most among any draft. The draft class also produced 3 players who have been named to the NBA's all-defensive first team: Bryant, Marcus Camby, and Wallace. Camby won the Defensive Player of the Year Award in 2007, while Wallace earned the same award in 2002, 2003, 2005, and 2006. The draft also included 5-time NBA champion Derek Fisher.
Most experts rate it along with the 1984 NBA draft and 2003 NBA draft as one of the best drafts in history. Sports Illustrated named it the second-best, behind the 1984 draft, whose highlights included Hakeem Olajuwon, Michael Jordan, Charles Barkley, and John Stockton.
