Probably the only Sampan in Hong Kong that sells noodles - 流記艇仔粉 🍜
Aberdeen is the home to many fishermen, this is where you can still find these “floating restaurants” for the fishing community, who spends most of their time on the water.
Having a bowl of 艇仔粉rice noodle from the sampan is definitely a must-do when you visit Aberdeen/Ap Lei Chau 香港仔/鴨脷洲. This bowl of 艇仔粉rice noodle with roasted duck 燒鴨, barbecue pork 叉燒and fishballs 魚蛋costs HKD$30. Does the number of ingredients affect the price? No! That’s why the boat people recommended us to order all 3 ingredients!
This is our tip - When you arrive at Ap Lei Chau/ Aberdeen, call the boat people at 9140 2628 and check whether the restaurant has opened and where is he now. We met him at Ap Lei Chau Ferry Pier 鴨脷洲街渡碼頭, which is near to Lei Tung MTR station 利東站, exit A1. (I called the boat people for 3 times to confirm the place, he was very patient to help us to find the way 🙈☺️)
It is not where you find good rice noodles, but this is definitely a fun experience and a part of Hong Kong culture and history, which should be preserved.

This one and only Floating Tin Hau Temple in Hong Kong, and probably in Asia, is going to retire soon.
We wanted to visit this temple 水上三角天后廟, which is dedicated to Tin Hau (the Goddess of the Sea) before it retires... We went there twice during the summer holiday in 2020 but failed to get on board, check out why 👇🏻
We went there at 12:30pm. We get on to a sampan (a small boat) at the pier next to the Causewaybay Noonday gun, that’s HKD$20 for a return trip and found that it was closed already. (Second photo)
For the second time, we called the temple in advance and went there much earlier, at 10:00pm. When the sampan was approaching the floating temple, the staff on the temple said that it was closed to public due to the pandemic. That is what we call 緣份 in Chinese... that’s fate. But at least we took some nice photos of the floating temple when we are on the Sampan. (First photo)
This Tin Hau temple was anchored in the Causeway bay Typhoon shelter since 1955 and will move to the land soon. Reason is that the cost to maintain a temple on the water is too high. The construction work of the new temple has delayed for more than a year due to the pandemic. We went to the Causewaybay typhoon shelter last week again, and found a banner on the floating temple writing “Tin Hau is moving to the land soon. Thank you for all your support.” (Fourth photo)
So where is the new temple now? It is right next to Tung Lo Wan Fire station 銅鑼灣消防局 at Causeway Bay. This temple resembles a ship, swipe to see the last photo and let us know whether you agree or not?

Happy Dragon Boat Festival @ Rice Dumpling Festival to all! Dalam Bahasa Melayu boleh jadi "Hari Ketupat" 😆
Mari Cikgu ChongWei citer sket, kenapalah Ketupat pon boleh jadi unsur Perayaan Cina.
Once upon a time in China, ada brother nama Master Chu, baik orang dia. Dia Menteri yg bijak, jujur dan disayangi ramai. One day, dia punya boss the King decided to berpakat sama kuasa jiran Qin yg semakin power. Chu menbantah! Dia cuba nasihat Raja yg itu hanya trick kuasa jiran itu masok dan nyerang. Raja degil jadi marah. "Berani Lu menghina beta! Pengkhianat!" Si Chu dibuang negera terus. Helpless dan keseorangan, dia pun start tulis poetry expressing concern for his country and people. Last last, memang betol negara diserang dan diambil Qin. Teramat sedih sekali, Chu yg sudah berputus-asa pun membunuh diri, terjun Sungai Miluo dan lemas...
Penduduk situ dapat tau, ramai-ramai kayuh boat kluar mencari, berhari-hari tak jumpa. Penduduk pun buat ketupat byk-byk, buang dalam sungai, dgn harapan ikan-ikan tak makan si Chu, supaya derang dapat jumpa body si Chu. Since that day, tiap-tiap tahun hari yg sama, penduduk akan naik sampan, buang ketupat dalam sungai, untuk mengenang kematian Chu.
Itulah jadinyer "Dragon Boat Festival" dan "Hari Ketupat" murid-murid.
Bahasa Hokkien kita panggil "Bak Chang". Ketupat daging ertinya. 😉
Macam-macam ada "chang" skarang. Kosong ada, ayam ada, daging ada, kacang ada, campur ada, yg Halal pon ada!
This is why I am so proud to be Malaysian. We are supercool 😎
