Our first dog sledding tour. We weren't sure of what to expect when we arrived at the tour and the hubby sure didn't imagine that he would need to be the one to control our sled.
With the unbearable cold winds at less than -10°C and snow constantly splattering onto our faces, it was hard for him to see the road ahead even with the ski goggles on. I remembered he took them off after a while because they fogged up too easily but he was determined to drive the sled as best as he could and keep us safe. It was amazing how these huskies could obey his commands of "Stop" and "Go" and would obediently come to a halt when he hit the brake - which you can only do by getting knee deep into the snow. Grrrrrr.
Even though we were told not to overtake, our huskies ran at a fast speed and we soon became ahead of others - while most sleds had three people or at least two grown ups sitting in it, ours only had myself and our 1-year-old toddler. No wonder we were so quick cos' we were considered light for our seven powerful huskies who just wanted to keep running!
The reindeer skin on the sled was comfy but it did little to keep us warm for I was freezing cold and my feet were all numb. Still, I had to bravely take off my gloves just so I could snap a few pictures and videos for remembrance. I mean, this might jolly well be a once in a lifetime opportunity, right? The snow covered mountains and warm rays from the sunset formed a breathtaking scenery and everything we saw in that two-hour journey seemed so surreal that it felt like a dream come true.
As for the baby girl, she was a gem and she slept snugly in my arms for over half of the ride. Even when she woke up, she didn't make a din or fuss about the shivering cold so we surprisingly had quite a smooth trip despite our initial concerns.
So glad we did this while we had the chance to and made lasting memories from the trip!
