【英文聽力要學好，先分好這兩件事情】a state-of-the-art article

上一篇文章我們談到了，如果一句話聽不到的時候，要怎麼剖析自己需要加強的地方（因為不是所有的聽不到、聽不好都跟聽力不好有關係)。

這一篇文章要以Top-down approach 和 bottom-up approach 來跟大家分析，練習英文聽力時，要注意的事情。

大多人在練習英文聽力時，想到的都偏向 bottom-up approach 的面向，如:
1. 發音 (pronunciation)
2. 抑揚頓挫 (intonation)
3. 連音 (connected speech)、消音 (deletion)
4. 字的重音 (stressed syllables) 和字間連結等等。(and more)

這些面向雖重要，在教學過程中，也會發現學生也可能會「每一句話都了解，但句子間的關係沒弄懂 -- focusing on individual sentences, missing the relationship between ideas」那樣也會造成有聽沒有懂。

因此，除了跟「聲音」相關係的部分要注意外，也要採取 top-down approach 來聽。而Top-down approach 著重

(1) 對話/演說的重點、主題、背景 (gist, main ideas, topic, and setting of the text)
(2) 資訊與資訊的關係 (general information or details)
(3) 資訊的整理 (how the speaker sequences the information)
(4) 對於內容的猜測 (inferencing, guessing, predicting)

大家要記得，母語人士、亦或聽力很好的人一定是不管有意識到、無意識到、還是些微意識到地同時使用這兩個approaches 在聽，才能培養出好的listening skills. (Skilled listeners simultaneously engage in top-down and bottom-up processing, using both types of skills to construct meaning. )

9th Tea Session : Celebrating the Lantern Festival in Wisdom and Warmth
2016 Annual Luck Cycle Talk II

根據因緣而論，吾已降生「東土」，多世矣。在眾多的佳節中，「覺受」最直接，最強烈的，按照「排行榜」的首二三名，都是東方節日。其他的節日，吾還是歡欣地接納的。只不過，吾認為東方節日的「內涵」及意義，較踏實、較深遠。就拿春節來說吧！所謂春節，顧名思意就是大地回春，新的一年的開始，百姓於過去的一年，辛勞刻苦的「耕做」，歇一歇，大伙團圓相聚，慶豐年，養精蓄銳，展望新年更比往年好。

未成為師父前，實不知為何過年要添新裝。一味只是隨俗的「裝模作樣」，好笑的是，還樂此不疲呢！成為師父後，自然而然的就明白了，過年添新裝的真實義。原來，除了人與空間之外，季節和節日，亦然有它們的磁場及氣場。就因如此，過年過節添新裝，是有其邏輯性與必要性的。當中所含蓋的，有除舊迎新、除晦氣迎旺氣、祝福自己身體健康、今年更比往年好，等等。

元宵佳節可謂，新春佳節暫且告個段落，大家各自回到自己的崗位，繼續的努力，更上一層樓。古時候的人們，在這歡欣美麗的佳節裡，喜歡以猜燈謎的遊戲，來歡度此佳節。可是她他們卻沒有另一層的智慧，知曉一切世間的享樂，其實都是第一時間的在削減福報，而且是有去無回的。因此，多少這類的享樂人兒，晚景甚悲慘，妳你們可知否？請再三思。

但，在這來臨的元宵佳節，玳瑚師父再次引領大家，圓智溫宵聚慶佳節。一來增長福慧，二來多親近善知識，學習消業障，增大福田之法。三來淨化身心。四來納福而不是消福。五來也讓妳你們的祖先靈、纏身靈、水子靈，一同得到光明淨化，謂之為冥陽兩利。真真正正的修行人，她他們是絕對可以將「享樂」，轉化成納福的。反之，一般凡夫走卒，都在消耗她他們的功德與福份啊！

According to karmic affinity, I have been reborn for countless lives in the Land of the East. Among all the festivals, the top three that give me the strongest and most direct vibes are all of Eastern origins. Of course, I joyfully accept other festivals too. I just personally feel that Eastern festivals have a deeper essence and significance to them. They come across as more grounded and deeply rooted. Take the Spring Festival for instance. This festival celebrates the renewal of Mother Earth, and the herald of a new year. A celebration of the hard work by the commoners in the previous year, and it is time to take a breather and gather together as families and friends to celebrate the bountiful harvest! It is also the time to recuperate and aspire to an even better year ahead.

Before I became a Master, it was a complete mystery to me why there is a need to get new clothing for the Chinese New Year. I followed this tradition blindly, and the funny thing is, I enjoyed and never got tired of it! After I became a Master, the real significance of this tradition of buying new clothing for the Chinese New Year became naturally clear. In actual fact, other than man and the environment space, seasons and festivals carry their unique magnetic and energy fields. Therefore, the tradition of refreshing your wardrobe becomes logical and necessary. It entails the removal of the old to make way for the new and the eradication of ill-luck and welcoming of prosperous energy. It also a wish for your own good health and an even better year ahead, etc.

The Fifteenth Day of the Lunar Month signifies the end of the Spring Festival Celebration. After this day, everyone would return to their roles and duties and continue to strive for better results. People from the olden days liked to participate in solving lantern riddles, as part of the celebration of the Fifteenth Day of the Lunar Month. Unfortunately, they did not elevate their wisdom to realize that in this world, all the celebrations and enjoyment would only lead to an immediate and irrevocable eradication of their merits and fortunes. That is why those people who enjoyed excessively in their lives suffered a tragic old age. Are you aware of this? Please think thrice.

However, come this Fifteenth Day of the Lunar Month, also known as the Lantern Festival, Master Dai Hu will once again lead everyone to celebrate the occasion with Wisdom and Warmth. Why should you join me in this celebration? First and foremost, you will grow in virtues and wisdom. Secondly, be near a virtuous person of knowledge and learn the art and practice of karma eradication and merits enhancement. Thirdly, to purify your body and spirit. Fourthly, you will garner more merits instead of wasting your existing ones. Last but not least, your ancestor spirits, karmic debtors, fetal spirits, shall be endowed and cleansed by the Light. This is indeed benefiting sentient beings from our realm as well as the Netherworld. A true spiritual cultivator can absolutely generate loads of merits and fortune even from acts of enjoyment. On the other hand, the common man on the streets, can only exhaust his or her merits and fortunes!

Tie dye is in! DIY Tie Dye Book
タイダイが今っぽい♡ちっちゃなちっちゃな豆本


【What You Need】
Tie-dye dye
・ Half a paper
・ Watercolor paint
・water
・paper cup

Miniature book
・ 15-20 sheets of text paper (100 x 35 mm)
・ Two colored paper (100 x 35mm)
・ Cover paper (130 × 50mm)
・ Cover for cover (54 × 37mm)
・ Back cover paper (5 × 37mm)
・ String for bookmarks (thin ribbon is acceptable) 65mm
・tape
・bond
・ Brush
・clip


[Steps]
① Dye the cover with tie dye.
1. Fold half a paper cut in half. Fold both sides in half outward.
2. Fold the outsides into a triangle and zigzag inwards to make a small triangle.
3. Add water and paint in a paper cup and make 3 dark colored water cups.
4. Place the corners of the half paper folded in a triangle on the colored water.
5. Gently spread the paper and let it dry completely.
6. Cut so that it covers the paper size. Cut the corners so that they fit into the frame.

② Make the inside of the book
1. Apply a thin layer of bond to the edge of the dyed cover and place the paper on top. Fold it over and paste it.
2. Fold the main body paper in half and paste the folded paper on the first and last pages.
3. Clip the part without the bond with a clip and dry it.
4. Affix the strap to the back of the book with tape.
5. Completed by applying a thin bond at the border between the cover and the cover sheet and pasting the text sheet.


この夏のトレンド、タイダイをDIY!
その工程は意外に簡単。
今回は豆本にアレンジしてみました。

【材料】
タイダイ染め
・半紙
・水彩絵の具
・水
・紙コップ

豆本
・本文用紙（100×35mm）15〜20枚
・見返し用色紙（100×35mm）2枚
・表紙用紙（130×50mm）
・表紙用厚紙（54×37mm）
・背表紙用紙（5×37mm）
・しおり用の紐（細めのリボンでも可）約65mm
・テープ
・ボンド
・筆
・クリップ


【作り方】
①タイダイ染めで表紙を染める。
1. 1/4に切った半紙を、半分に折る。両側をそれぞれ外側に半分に折る。
2. 三角形にジグザグに蛇腹折りする。
3. 紙コップに水と絵の具を入れ、濃いめの色水を3つ作る。
4. 三角形に折った半紙の角を色水にそれぞれつける。
5. 半紙をそっと広げ、完全に乾かす。
6. 表紙用紙の大きさに切る。角は見返しの大きさに合わせて額縁になるように切っておく。

②豆本の本体をつくる
1. 染めた表紙の縁に薄めたボンドを塗り、見返し用紙を上に乗せる。見返しを折って貼り付ける。
2. 本文用紙を半分に折って重ね、最初と最後のページに同じく折った見返し用紙を貼り付ける。
3. ボンドが付いてない部分をクリップでとめて、乾かす。
4. 本誌の背の部分に栞用の紐をテープで貼り付ける。
5. 表紙の見返しと見返し用紙の境に薄めたボンドを塗り、本文用紙を貼り付けて完成。

他從獄中寄了封信給我，說是我的樂迷。
在網際網路盛行的年代，人們總是用著私訊、留言、簡訊，述說著喜歡與愛。
可在這天，一個忙得天昏地暗的日子裡，在昏暗的練琴室，我收到了一封手寫信。
拆開信上面有一個梅花輪廓的圖章，裡面寫著「祝福(3)」，另有一個檢查信件般的圖章，讓我明白了這是一封從獄中發出來的信。
他說偶然間看到我拉琴，覺得在我身上看到了對音樂的熱情與執著，以及我藉著音樂散發出來的感覺與力量。
他的信，給了那陣子十分茫然迷惑的我很大的力量。在古典與現代之間，在流行與藝術之中，我也常在想自己的定位在哪，是否都是做著自己喜歡的工作呢？他的信讓我明白，無論做什麼，只要能有人感受到我想表達的，就是一種幸福。而獄中的他，希望能將他給我的祝福，也再度回給他一些力量。
於是就寫了這首歌，希望某天當她重新回到社會上時，無論遇到再艱難的事情，都不要放棄，就讓這首歌，讓音樂而有所連結的我們，都能帶來無比的力量。

It’s another busy day as I was working on my song arrangement in the studio, I received a hand written letter from a fan.
As i opened the letter, there’s a flower shaped stamp on top says “Blessing, 3” seems to be an inspection check stamp, as I read the inspection text, i then realised it’s a letter from jail. He mentioned that he first saw my performance on the TV and started to follow my music, he enjoys the music and gets great support and motivation from it.
It’s always a pleasant moment to find when your music gives people strength because that also gives me great support and strength at the same time. Sometimes I’d also wonder, what’s the purpose of music? what’s the purpose of live performance? His letter made me realise one thing, no matter what we do or what we choose to do, if someone feels the strength and warmth from our expression, our giving, then its a form of happiness. As i read his letter, I decide to write a song as a blessing to him and to people in this world who are in their low mood, in need of strength, hope one day we all come thru these battle together, look forward to tomorrow as long as there is hope.
