Israeli PM Benjamin Netanyahu made an official visit to Singapore this week (bit.ly/2meDyTb).
Before he came, Ustaz Mohamad Hasbi Hassan, President, Singapore Islamic Scholars & Religious Teachers Association - Pergas wrote to me to express the Malay/Muslim community’s concerns about the Israeli-Palestinian issue, asking me to convey them to PM Netanyahu.
I fully understood these concerns, and reiterated Singapore’s position to PM Netanyahu. We continue to support a negotiated two-state solution to the Israeli-Palestinian issue, as the only path to lasting peace and security to the region. We are also committed to assisting the Palestinians. In 2016 we appointed Hawazi Daipi as Singapore’s representative to the Palestinian National Authority. He made his first visit to Ramallah as our representative last month (bit.ly/2mbAnfX).
Like many countries, Singapore is concerned about the Israeli-Palestinian issue. We are friends with both Israel and Palestine, and fervently hope to see them living in peace together one day.

Minggu ini, PM Israel Benjamin Netanyahu berada di sini bagi lawatan rasmi ke Singapura (bit.ly/2meDyTb).
Sebelum itu, Ustaz Mohamad Hasbi Hassan, Presiden Persatuan Ulama dan Guru-Guru Agama Islam (PERGAS) mengirimkan sepucuk surat kepada saya melahirkan keprihatinan masyarakat Melayu/Islam tentang isu Israel-Palestin. Beliau meminta saya menyampaikannya kepada PM Netanyahu.
Saya benar-benar memahami keprihatinan ini dan mengulangi kedudukan Singapura kepada PM Netanyahu. Kita terus menyokong penyelesaian dua negara yang dirundingkan dalam isu Israel-Palestin kerana inilah satu-satunya cara untuk mewujudkan keamanan dan keselamatan yang berkekalan di rantau itu. Kita juga beriltizam untuk membantu rakyat Palestin. Tahun lalu, kita melantik Hawazi Daipi sebagai wakil Singapura ke Pihak Berkuasa Kebangsaan Palestin. Bulan lepas, beliau membuat lawatan pertamanya ke Ramallah sebagai wakil kita. (bit.ly/2mbAnfX).
Seperti banyak negara, Singapura mengambil berat tentang isu Israel-Palestin. Kedua-dua Israel dan Palestin adalah kawan kita, dan kita benar-benar berharap mereka dapat hidup bersama dengan aman satu hari nanti.

Pergas has expressed our concern and the Singapore Muslim aspiration to the Singapore government on the Palestine situation. Alhamdulillah, our concern has been conveyed by Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong to the Israeli's Prime Minister during his two-day Singapore visit earlier this week.
