Today is President’s Day! The holiday first started in 1885 to mark the February 22 birthday of George Washington, the first president of the United States. These days, the holiday is celebrated on the third Monday of February and honors all presidents. Here are some of the most popular — and a few less familiar — memorials to U.S. presidents.

Today, AIT and the Discover America Committee in Taiwan held an event to feature U.S. holiday destinations. As part of the AIT’s 40th anniversary celebrations, 2019 has been designated the U.S.-Taiwan Travel Year. AIT Acting Director Raymond Greene presented awards to 2nd-quarter winners of the “USA Through My Eyes” promotion. It is a yearlong online photo contest that features exciting U.S. destinations. 1st-quarter destinations were the Marianas, Guam, and Montana; 2nd-quarter destinations were California, Houston, and Disney. Acting Director Greene also kicked off the 3rd-quarter contest, which features Idaho, Hawaii and Wyoming. Prizes for the 3rd-quarter winners include three Taipei-U.S. roundtrip air tickets and Idaho Ice Wine. For details about the contest and how to enter, visit http://photos.discoveramerica.org.tw/
