=========================================
Almost all the fairy tales end at the altar where the prince and the princess are happy forever after. Although some fairy tales like the Shrek’s have sequels on when the prince and the princess have children, they are mostly about the children and the family dynamic, little is being said about what happens to the princess when she becomes a mum. Compared to the topic of marriage, the topic of pregnancy is relatively uncommon, at least from the mothers’ perspective.
The weight gain during pregnancy is like a double-edged sword, that can be dangerous being too much or too little. Too much weight gain can put the mother at risk of difficult delivery or bleeding, whilst too little weight gain can risk the baby of prematurity or poor development. I am asked about this question almost everyday: how much weight gain is “normal” for pregnancy. In Asians, on average 10 kg is gained during a singleton pregnancy. The rate of weight gain is fastest during the 2nd trimester. However, the body shape changes the most during the 3rd trimester due to retention of water. The main components of weight gain during pregnancy include the mother’s body, baby, amniotic fluid/placenta and the womb. Most of these components will reverse after birth of the baby, only a small proportion will stay as body fat (about 25%).
Because everyone has different weight and height, it is not sensible to recommend a single number for the ideal weight gain during pregnancy. One way of doing this is the Body Mass Index (BMI). For Asians with BMI between 18-24, the ideal weight gain should be about 8 to 10 kg. (different recommendations may vary in the range of 1-2 kg) BMI outside this range should adjust their weight gain more or less than the recommended range. (For example, BMI of 30 should aim for a 6 kg weight gain). Diet control according to each trimester needs and regular exercises are good tools which can help mothers to achieve the desired weight gain.
We are always excited about the mothers’ belly being bigger everyday, but when after the baby is born, there seems to be an unrealistic expectation to recover her shape and weight almost immediately (as exemplified in many gossip magazines on how these celebrities successfully lose weight within an amazing amount of time). Hopefully when we pay more attention to mothers after they give birth perspectives can change.

🔍 Stage 5:Interview
🔺 Part 2:6 steps for preparation before an interview
1️⃣ Arranging & confirming interview details.
After receiving the interview notice, be sure to confirm the date, time, venue, interview process with the company and if you need to prepare and bring any specific documents or certifications. If you are traveling to a location that is quite far, you can try to ask if the company is willing to subsidize your transportation fees or if they are comfortable settling for a video interview instead.
Remember to arrange for your transportation in advance to the interview location and always arrive earlier than your expected time.
2️⃣ Deploy your best marketing skills.
An interview is all about selling yourself and your works to the company and for the job position, it is not about bragging how good you are, be careful of the difference!
The best technique is using your personal charm to market yourself. When preparing for an interview in the UK, other than paying attention to basic dressing etiquettes and formalities, do not be too humble as well. Try your best to display your merits, experience and value that can defeat other candidates. Do not be shy and rehearse your interviews often so that you do not get nervous during the real deal!
3️⃣ Resonating your works with the company.
It is crucial that your portfolio resonates with the company’s ethos. Learn and familiarize yourself with these details from the company website, reports and projects that they might have done. This helps you to engage deeper in conversation during the interview.
You could talk about a few of their projects which you admire. How it has influenced or inspired you and how your design beliefs and interest is similar to the company. Alternatively, you could also show a portfolio that is more aligned with what the company does so that you can discuss your works on a deeper level with them.
It is also recommended that you know your interviewers in advance so that you understand what draws their attention and what conversation topics will engage them. Check the company's website, LinkedIn, or even a google search to read up on your interviewers profile, articles they have written before and their experiences.
4️⃣ Portfolio’s target audience.
Other than bringing your portfolio works sent in during application, it is recommended that you bring an additional 1-2 completed works targeted towards the design nature of the company.
5️⃣ Understand the work scope and remunerations of the job.
Read the recruitment advertisement again, understand the scope of works and think of how the job plays a role within the company organisation. What would be the challenges? What are the takeaways from the job? Evaluate and weigh out these elements.
If you have had work experiences, did you meet similar challenges with your previous job? How did you manage to overcome them? More importantly, what are your views and thoughts about the job position. What can you value-add to the company?
In addition, don’t forget to check out the remuneration packages of similar job vacancies. Towards the end of the interview is where you would be asked about your ideal salary range and job package details – overtime pay, travel sick leaves, vacation days, insurances, time flexibility etc.
Consider the package in whole and negotiate clearly and confidently. It is important that you display a balance between your financial concerns and genuine interest and desire for the job. Avoid being too eager and overbearing during these talks.
6️⃣ Your curiosity towards the company.
What else do you want to learn about the company? An interview goes both ways; hence it is recommended that you prepare in advance some questions that you would like to ask the company as well.
This not only shows your deep interest towards the company but also helps to establish a closer connection between both parties. Be confident and enthusiastic, try to engage and extend the conversation topic or even start new ones. Let the company feel your excitement and curiosity!

The mission was clear: Go to the NBA. Take over. Do so in a way that told the basketball world a new era had arrived.
If you were not a part of his inner circle, Allen Iverson didn't give a damn about you. The thing is, he was atypical in that he wanted you to know it, specifically because it was his way of saying he knew you would never give a damn about him anyway, no matter how much you smiled in his face.
His talent would make you care.
His performance would make you salivate.
His achievements would make you kneel.
All the way to the Hall of Fame, someday.
Iverson's story is not foreign, of course. It's similar to that of many players in today's NBA. Most are African-Americans. Most come from impoverished backgrounds. Almost all strive to elevate themselves to a level of greatness that has forced a global audience to pay attention, to emulate, then join.
Yet very few have ever impacted basketball like Iverson. No matter how hard they try.
"I always tell folks I played every game like it's my last," Iverson said earlier this week, in advance of his Hall of Fame induction on Friday. "And I meant that. But sometimes I don't think people realize what I mean when I say that. It's not just about playing so hard; it's why I played so hard. You know what I mean? It's what I wondered would happen to me if I didn't do it.
"You've got to know my history and how I truly feel to realize where I'm coming from."
But few will ever know. No matter how hard they try.
During to a career that would culminate with Iverson averaging 26.7 points per game, winning four scoring titles and one MVP -- at 6 feet, 165 pounds -- folks witnessed his heroics but barely knew the intimate challenges he faced.
Iverson knew being incarcerated, then granted clemency, wasn't a likable trait for Madison Avenue; that he wasn't the ideal spokesman for the NBA. Iverson knew a visibly polished Kobe Bryant was preferable to the tattoos, cornrows and street persona proudly worn on the sleeves, neck and elsewhere on this former All-American out of Georgetown.
But Iverson also knew everyone couldn't be Bryant or Michael Jordan. He knew that if MJ and Kobe -- and no one else -- were the standard, society wouldn't have a true depiction of NBA stars to come.
"I was 6 feet, so folks could relate to that," he once told me. "I was 165 pounds, so folks could relate to that. But I was also someone who wanted to be me, judged for what I do and who I am, instead of what you say I'm suppose to be. It's true that some [people] don't want to play the game, but a lot of dudes don't know how to. And even the ones that do, most ain't going to be accepted. So what about them?"
Even today that is still a legitimate question.
LeBron James has helped provide answers by showing you he can be a champion, pre-eminent role model and global icon, even if tattoos are draped all over his body. Steph Curry has proven as much, as well, by being a baby-faced, long-range assassin who, at 6-foot-3, looks like a regular dude instead of a Goliath of a man.
From Carmelo Anthony to Chris Paul to Dwyane Wade and beyond, players are speaking not just with their play on the court, but with their willingness to address issues off the court. And although Iverson is no innovator in that department, his willingness to express himself certainly made it easier for athletes to open up more in a day and age that's demanding it, not asking.
