紀念鄧國清教授
In memory of Prof. Deng Guoqing
台灣藝專、台北復興崗大學美術系教授，鄧國清先生，湖南邵陽人。
Deng Guoqing was a professor of art at the National Taiwan Junior College of Arts and the Taipei Fu Hsing Kang College. He was born in Shaoyang, Hunan.
我來台早期，在畫廊舉辦「南台灣山地之旅」和「湘西行」寫生展覽，他與同為水彩名家的弟弟國強先生，電視台美術指導也是邵陽人的劉岳均都前來參觀、鼓勵。他當我面說：如果我做系主任，一定請你來系裡演講。果然，後來他在政戰美術系系主任任上兩次邀請我在學院示範人物素描和油畫人像，還作成錄影帶給學生作範本。
When I first came to Taiwan, I had the solo exhibitions “Journey to Southern Taiwan” and “Journey to Xiangxi” at the East Gallery featuring plein air landscape paintings. Deng, his younger brother Deng Kuoqiang (who was a well-known watercolor painter in his own right), as well as Liu Yue (another Shaoyang native and the art director at a TV station) all came to view the exhibitions and offer their support. Deng said to me, “If I were the head of the department, I would definitely invite you to come and give lectures.” True to his word, while he was the head of the Department of Arts at the Fu Hsing Kang College, he invited me on two occasions to give demonstrations on drawing and oil painting portraits. These were also recorded into instructional videos for students.
2010年，台灣一民間出版機構出版《台灣名家美術一百年》的套書。他當然入列名單。當他發現油畫類沒有冉茂芹時，向負責人強力推薦說，冉茂芹來台二十多年，創作了渡海系列大畫，為很多領導人畫肖像，帶出好多年輕畫家，這本套書怎麼能沒有他呢？繞不過去的。出版社負責人到畫室來拜訪、參觀後說：你是寫實油畫第一人！鄧教授真是說得對，不能漏掉你。

國清教授請我為他畫張肖像，我高興地承諾，並希望畫出水準，畫出他的氣質。去北投鄧教授畫室兩次，寫生完成此作。不管他怎麼說，我執意不收酬金。可是，在全家邀請我的餐宴上他硬是塞給我一個超大紅包！如此古道熱腸之人，如此湖南君子！
When Professor Deng asked me to paint a portrait for him, I was more than happy to oblige. I was also determined to produce a work of quality that captured his qualities. I made two trips to the professor’s studio in Beitou and completed this work. No matter what he said, I refused to accept any payment for this portrait. In the end, he openly forced a very large red packet into my hands during a family banquet that he invited me to! Such a gracious and true gentleman of Hunan!
