改編自同名動畫影集，製作成音樂劇場搬上舞台
自 2016年先在芝加哥預演，接著在2017年登上紐約百老匯的劇院

劇中的歌劇更是星光閃閃，海綿寶寶舞台劇的製作方找來許多知名樂團歌手來創作劇中音樂，像是Plain White T's、Cyndi Lauper、Sara Bareilles、Lady Antebellum、John Legend、They Might Be Giants
.
除了，劇中歌曲找來許多知名創作人，整部劇也把大家所熟知的 海綿寶寶、派大星、章魚哥、蟹老闆、皮老闆、珊迪.....等等角色都變成真人
.
這部音樂劇推出之後，也在當年度的美國東尼獎獲得12項提名，與另一部 means girl 同樣並列，當年最多提名的戲劇，兩部都是12項提名
