Big Data Analytics for Accounting
This morning, at the Senate Hall of IIUM, I have delivered a welcoming remark in conjunction with 7th IIUM International Accounting Conference.
Amongst others, I have argued that the course on big data analytics and A.I. to be made a wide course at the university level in Malaysia. My ultimate wish (beyond academic) however is that every Malaysian can use big data analytcis and A.I. on their smart phone for their daily and timely decisioning process; which school and university to study at, which bank to get the financing from, which travel agent to get the services from, which hospital to get the treatment from and even which movies to watch and whom to employ for respective job.
I would like to submit that the academia has no option but to embrace this new technology to manage and interpret so much data in all fields of life and knowledge - both structured and unstructured data. Any further delay will render them irerlevant or ar least less effective.
I have urged the universities to focus a bit more on data governance. We need smart and 'pious' algorithm to monitor 'smart and unethical' algorithm.
In the course of my speech, I alluded to the fact that the world is now embarking on 'disrupting the disrupters'. It is always fun to be able to disrupt the disrupters. This will be unlocking. In the same vein, i have hinted on the need to invent the technology which can deal with small data too. This will be amazing.
The conference is jointly organised by Department of Accounting and Internal Audit Office of IIUM, as well as Assuring Consulting Sdn.Bhd.
Interestingly, the conference received great and tremendous support form Malaysian Institute of Accountants and Institute of Auditors Malaysia respectively. Many sponsors also came forward to sponsor the event. Many thanks to all the organisers, partners and sponsors. All the speakers are impressive. Great event to be attended.

【公益影片】A VIDEO TO HELP CHILDREN

2017年七月，我第一次從客人那兒認識到川崎症，覺得這甚少被人認識的幼童病症極為恐怖，於是寫了篇貼文。當時我只有兩百多位臉書朋友，結果這貼文被許多父母在臉書上分享了74次。
在新加坡，每年200位幼童會患此病。此病容易被當成普通發燒來治，而誤了治療的黃金時段。有的病兒因此而死亡，有的康復後有會一輩子都有後遺症。
今年讀到在新加坡有更多孩童患了川崎症，便上Youtube搜索，發現沒多少簡而易懂的英文影片介紹這病症。目前的都是由醫療人員所拍，因此Youtube演算法一般不會把這類的影片推薦給一般的觀眾。
今年底或明年初，我會把這貼文拍成影片放在我的頻道上: 謙預。我的觀眾群，大多是有幼童的家長，希望不同的風格，有助於更多人在Youtube上能認識到川崎症。
兩年前那貼文引來了很多母親來聯絡我，並提供孩子的八字供我研究。非常感謝妳們。如果父母們也想與我一同讓更多人認識川崎症，歡迎私訊我你們孩子患川崎症時的徵兆照片。 別擔心，我不會用這影片來做個人謀利。

In July 2017, I first heard of Kawasaki Disease from a client. I realised how little known this terrifying disease is and hence wrote a post to introduce it. I only had about 200+ FB friends at that time, but that post got shared 74 times over Facebook.
Every year in Singapore, 200 young children get infected with Kawasaki Disease. This illness is often misdiagnosed as the common fever, hence sometimes missing the golden period to seek the right treatment. There are children in Singapore who had died from this disease, while others who recovered suffer from aftereffects in their hearts.
When I read more news about Kawasaki Disease getting more prevalent this year, I went to Youtube to do a search "Kawasaki Disease". To my surprise, I realised there were not many English videos which makes Kawasaki Disease easy to understand.
Most of the English videos on Youtube are shot by medical personnel mainly Westerners, hence it is highly unlikely that the Youtube algorithm will recommend this category of videos to the general audience, especially those in Singapore.
By this year end or early next year, I will make a video out of my 2017 post and upload it on my Youtube channel: QIANYUSG. My audience is mainly parents with young children. Hopefully with a different presentation style, this will help more people to know about Kawasaki Disease on Youtube.
When I posted that post two years ago, many mothers contacted me and provided me with their children's Bazi for my study. Thank you so much. If parents of children with Kawasaki disease wish to assist me in this initiative, you are welcome to send me photos of your children when they were showing symptoms. Don't worry, I will not use this video for monetisation objectives.
It is very tough to bring up a child. With the right knowledge, may more parents find it easier to raise their kids. May all children grow up healthy and safe.
