What are dentists doing during your dental visit? 🦷 #WorldOralHealthDay
We start from saying hi to you. 👋 Believe it or not, from that point we have already started diagnosing you. If you look pale or huffing and puffing after walking to the dental clinic, it might indicate that you have underlying diseases that might cause complications in your dental treatment (eg pulling out of your tooth). 💉
Then, we will ask you about your past medical and dental history. Through understanding your body’s condition, we can have a better understanding about your intra- & extra-oral condition. Yes! We don’t just look into your mouth but your overalls as well, to detect any swellings/ early signs of cancer you might not notice yourself. 😷
After a thorough investigation, we will take any necessary X-rays or perform any special tests to check on the tooth we suspect is having decay or other conditions. 🦷 All dental surgeons have been trained to analyse your X-rays to detect any decay, bone resorption (loss of bone), condition of your existing fillings and even abnormal growths in your jaw bone that couldn’t be seen from the outside!
After diagnosing, we’ll design a full-mouth treatment plan for you. This is the hardest process as we need to consider multiple factors before deciding to go for which treatment for you. 👩⚕️ Do you grind your teeth at night? Do you love eating hard food like nuts? 🥜 Are you a teacher who speaks a lot on daily basis, or a gym trainer who clenches jaw a lot when lifting weight? 🏋️♂️
All these factors (eg. Heavy chewer/ active speaker etc) play a significant role when we are deciding which treatment we are giving you because simply, we want your fillings to last as well! Trust me, dentist don’t fancy the idea of you going back to them over and over again for the same problem too 😂
We will then carry out any treatments necessary for you, followed by a review visit.
And why do you even need to go for a check up when your tooth is not in pain? 🤔It’s like servicing your car. You have to maintain it periodically, instead of only fixing it when it broke down. 🚗 Visit your dentist on this World Oral Health Day!😁
