Q1: What is success mean to you?
I'm not sure what defines success, for me, success or failure is just a “phenomenon” that keeps changing. “Everything with form is unreal; if all forms are seen as unreal, the Tathagata will be perceived.” There is no rule to achieve success, we don’t know whether or not we can succeed before we start exploring.
Q2: How did you get into film and media? Can you tell me about your childhood?
As a child, I was obsessed with children's literature and illustrations, it was the reason I decided to study Design in HK PolyU. My first scriptwriting class in School of Creative Media, was a turning point. Dr. Tam Ka Ming’s teachings guided me towards the film industry. All I know is that I couldn’t help but follow my desire to use a camera to tell stories. It’s what led me drifting down this life-long career path. At the age of 23, I filmed my first movie, “High Noon". It portrays the dilemma of teens becoming adults and stepping into society.
Q3: How do you approach story or scene as a director, and what do you want to achieve on set?
The motifs of my movies are youth, growth, desire, bright and dark sides of human nature.
I think making movie is a journey of “Discovery”, “Recovery” and “Being”. Youth and teen growth is not only the topic for my debut, it is the topic of life that I concern.
Q4: Why you also started a talent agency? You also produce, why you choose to do so many things?
When I started my company Dumb Youth, my 1st intention was to protect those artists. Then I realize that a part of my role in life is to embrace my life with my "companions". I believe that the people and things around us coexists in the same space for a reason. I live by the Kahlil Gibran quote: “And all work is empty save when there is love”.
Q5: What inspires you about the film world and in HK Film Industry?
Love and Death, Lust and Desire, Humanity and Spirituality, lightness, heaviness and thickness.
For Hong Kong Film industry, I think the creativity and imagination always inspire me the most, and most importantly, people here have the ability to find humor amongst adversity.

Topic: Struggling with Stress Eating
This was me 7 days ago
I resisted eating like a mad dog for 5 days after my recent F Up, but sadly I just repeated another stress eating, finished devouring so much fast food all under 5-10 min
I shot this pic to remind myself that I fk up again…
Normally my instinct is to Go to the Gym & Lift
But this time I didn’t do that, instead I just ate like a mad man again who looked like he hasn’t eaten for 45 days
And I’ve faced this episode - many many times
This was one of those things I know that if I kept doing, it’s just gonna end up really bad for myself
And the truth is, I wasn’t willing to deal with the stress at the time and kept holding on to it, ending in another terrible binge eat that made me felt depressed & pissed off about myself
It was a downward spiral as I started to depend on Food more than ever - Not for energy & health purpose but more towards mental temporary relief
And I had enough
Enough of the BS I tell myself - that it’s okay to just eat and enjoy the moment
Enough of Stress Eating - it’s time to earn back self control & discipline
It starts now
I’m sharing this, not to gain pity, but because I know how fkn hard stress eating messes up my body and I didn’t know whom to talk to - because normally it’s people who reached out to me!
I felt ashamed as I tell people to show up and keep the fire burning, but my own fire is being put off by myself
Whatever my personal reasons are - it is not an excuse to keep fking up, and that’s why I’m sharing this publicly to hold myself accountable to all of you, and to commit to a Plan
I don’t believe in perfection - but I believe in owning up to my shit & to take full control to transform into the Beast I know I am Capable of being
I hope this simple sharing can give some of you who struggle with the same problem - some courage & energy to change something for the better
I know it’s tough af, but you’re not alone and that you can be in control, as long as you’re willing to put in the effort 🔥
We are in this together - Let’s do this 💯

I’ve spent the past 4 months training in a lot of gyms, and watching hundreds of people in different countries and environments train got me thinking “if I had to give them ALL one piece of advice, what would it be?” 🤔
-
I settled on slowing down their reps. I don’t know why there is such a wild obsession with “explosivity” 🤷🏻♂️ It’s like everyone has forgotten the equation F=ma, and lost the ability to observe what happens to joint control when people try to move weight quicker than they’re capable of coordinating 🧐
-
I would love to go up to the tonnes of people throwing weight around as quickly as they can and ask them what they think they’re getting out of it❓
-
The only possible argument could be that they’re training for the “athletic carry over” of moving quickly (a separate topic of suspect science that I won’t go into now), but it’s very hard to believe that such large portions of each gym consider themselves “athletes” and aren’t just training for improved strength, quality of life and aesthetics 😎
-
If anyone is under the impression that making the intended muscles contract and produce force under control at a high intensity without “explosivity” is not getting them the same gains as faster movements, please let me assure you that is not the case☝🏽
-
5️⃣ Things to consider with high acceleration movements:
- Forces at transitions increase dramatically, reducing control of the joints that aren’t meant to be moving.
- Stress placed on connective tissue to manage what muscles can’t increases.
- Resistance profiles get changed (and rarely for the better)
- “Range of motion” becomes harder to control, and thus less regular
- Load placed on muscles becomes acceleration-dependent, harder to track & thus only possible to gradually, consistently increase if you have advanced equipment to measure this with.
-
I’m not saying bouncing out of the bottom of reps and swinging into “full range” will be the death of your joints ☠️ or get you no gains. (To varying degrees) our bodies are resilient & adaptable and regardless of what you do contractions are still taking place and force is still being produced 💪🏽
-
I’m just saying it rarely makes much sense.

Steve Jobs 講過,"People think focus means saying yes to the thing you've got to focus on. But that's not what it means at all. It means saying no to the hundred other good ideas that there are. You have to pick carefully. I'm actually as proud of the things we haven't done as the things I have done. Innovation is saying no to 1000 things."
Business is about making tough choices. Who is your primary customer? ...
What Strategic Boundaries Have You Set?
Opportunities to avoid!
(1) Generate US$100 million recurring annual revenue
(2) Sustain a 15% growth rate
(3) Be number one or two in the market, with the potential to be number one in five years
(4) Offer standardized noncustomized products ans services
(5) Have a clear exit plan
Crazy!
What not to do and what opportunities to avoid?
Whatever it is!
How Are You Generating Creative Tension?

What makes an essay well-written? Well, every essay needs a good structure, and every good structure needs a good introduction! An essay is like an extravagant meal - you start off with a strong appetiser, and you will be drawn in instantly. Make sure your essay’s 'appetiser' is clear, concise, and gives the reader a teaser of what the essay is all about. And of course, make sure the introduction gives you a good start on the goal of your essay, whether that be to educate, discuss, or persuade!
But don’t pour all of your effort into making a single introduction. The real content of your essay is found in its main body. Again, follow a structure to make it all as clear as possible, but don’t just fill up the paragraphs with meaningless fluff! Like your 'appetiser', your 'main course' must be concise and really fill you up. Dive straight into your topic and explore all the relevant points.
And of course, nothing tops a meal off better than a refreshing dessert! In terms of the essay, your conclusion will be your dessert. The introduction and conclusion are actually quite similar - your dessert is not there just as a goodbye, but it’s there to round everything up and bring things to a logical end. And because it’s the last thing you read, it needs to leave the reader with a good memory of the whole experience - that’s what good conclusions consist of.
So the next time you’re faced with the task of writing an essay, just remember: try and treat your reader to a nice three-course meal at a fancy restaurant for optimal results!
Happy writing,

Do you remember my TED Talk, 'Do You Speak The Future?' Well, here’s another surprise…the day right after my TED Talk, my Latin teacher invited me to give another talk at the Anagnostics Society, the school’s Classics society! I was overjoyed, of course, but not just because of the invitation. What was so ironic about this is that I had been wanting to join this society for a long time, but I wasn’t able to because it was only open to students in the upper years, and I wasn’t old enough to enter. Yet here I was, being honoured with an invitation to give a talk at that same society! The Almighty really had planned the best for me - Alhamdulillah!
The talk was an expansion of my TED Talk topic, and I included an extra crash course in linguistics and conlanging (how to make your own language), presented in a workshop-style format. I got really positive feedback from the audience, as well as the teacher who invited me - he praised me for such a great talk, and he might have to invite me again for another talk to take an in-depth look at Tolkien’s languages! And the cherry on top was that he even awarded me with a Golden Book entry, both for my TED Talk and the talk I had given at the society - how truly humbling!
Needless to say, I was more than flattered. I also enjoyed giving the talk - one of the things that gives me most pleasure is being able to share and educate others about my passions! This truly was a blessing - indeed, even being rejected from the society in the first place was a blessing in disguise! In return, I was honoured with an invitation not only to give a talk, but to conduct a workshop as well! I am truly grateful for the opportunity to further widen my audience and carry on inspiring others by sharing my own passion.
I thank my teacher for being so trusting by honouring me with the invitation in the first place. I thank my friends and schoolmates who showed their support by attending. I thank my family for being my backbone all along. And above all, I thank Allah for bestowing countless opportunities upon me! May this be the start of many more blessed occasions to come in the year ahead…
Blessed,
O. Mukhtar O. Mukhlis
