Blue skies, white clouds, golden sand - this was what greeted us every morning for the past week.
I was looking around for our accommodation and searched through dozens before settling for @labulabiresidence. Why? The compelling reason was that we were gonna stay right at the beach! How can I resist that? Okay, it's not a hotel per se and more of a chalet but it was perfect for our family needs.
Our room was spacious with two queen beds, had a wardrobe with no door, a dressing table, a desk, a couple of chairs and a round table (where we ate our takeaways), a small TV, a fridge, two bedside tables, hairdryers upon request, lots of storage space, a kettle, a toilet, wooden chairs and tables on the porch as well as loungers at the beach. Yup, we had much more space than we thought we would and the kids were intrigued to see that our room even had a broom too. Haha. I have to say the broom was super handy because we had sand all over the floor since we were stepping onto the beach and in and out every few minutes. But what is that compared to having this paradise right at our doorstep, right?
We made friends with our neighbours who came all the way from Netherlands and Slovenia, we were impressed by the kids and teens manning the reception (it is a family business and they have 4 kids aged 15, 14, 11 and 4 months), we were away from the hustle and bustle of the city, we were excited to wake up every morning and the kids would dash out in their PJs and I was just so thankful that I made the choice for us to stay here. The hubby said he loved it too. Yay!
This truly turned out to be the ideal choice for my family of five who love the beach and appreciate being close to nature. I choose this cosy 2-star home over a luxury 5-star hotel room any time. I hope the kids will remember how we could hear the sound of waves, how we went crab hunting almost every night, how we flew a kite, how gorgeous the sunset was, how we did nothing yet everything when we were here.
Hope to be back again in the future some day!

By far my most hardcore photography trip, me and 5 friends spent 6d5n in the East Java of Indonesia, sleeping very little and spent most of the nights capturing milkyway. On the first day we arrived, we went to Mount Ijen which is famous for its acidic crater lake and blue flame. We started to hike at around 1.30am and we took an hour and a half and completed 3km journey and reached at the peak. When the day breaks, you will see the turquoise colored crater lake at the bottom. A mask is highly recommended here.
Then we moved on to Papuma Beach, a leading tourist attraction in the Jember district. The crushing waves here are so strong that swimming and playing in the sea are prohibited. We successfully captured the rising milkyway on the first night, spending the whole night at the seaside. On the second night luck was not on our side. Hence, we stayed in our hostel and finally get some sleep.
During the 4th day, we reached Bromo which is our true goal during this trip. We agreed to leave it as the last destination because you will always like to leave the best for the last right? =D
Reaching the Penanjakan 1 at 8pm, we setup our gears and wait for the milkyway to rise. It was cloudy starting but after a couple of hours, the clouds gave way and we saw the milkyway with our naked eyes! It was empty all over the place so we got to secure the front row and make sure nobody will block our view. After 9 hours standing under the temperature of 12 degree celsius, the day began to break and you will see a sea of people trying to squeeze to the front row, phones and cameras were gliding by our side, and they look forward to photograph the amazing view.
I look forward to returning to this amazing piece of land again in the next few years.
