2️⃣of2️⃣ Fatimah gave birth to Mummy⁉️😂
.
Birthdays are such a fun time to celebrate our children and show them how much we love them. It is always a memorable occasion to remember the day your child was born and to reflect on how much they have grown over the past years.
.
However, I want to make sure my children recognise the true value and meaning of birthdays as a celebration of LIFE and not just an opportunity to be the centre of attention and a time to get more presents.
.
They should be celebrating life by being thankful for the life that has been given to them. They need to remember how hard the process of creating such a special life was. So, first they need to thank God and then the person who has been through the hardship, pain, sweat and tears during the process - their MOTHER!
.
So for these reasons, our family decided to celebrate birthdays by telling their mother just how much they appreciate her for their existence. They could express it to her by saying it directly, through a thank you card and gifts or even by preparing her a special meal!
.
So on Fatimah's birthday, I told her about this but in a simple way for a 4 year old child to understand. She understood it straight away without any hesitation. She told me, "Daddy, after school can you bring me to the shop. I want to buy mummy a thank you card, flowers and chocolate." I said “OK.” and asked her why. She said "sebab Mummy beranok ko I la and dio sakik perut jugok!” (Because Mummy gave birth to me and she went through a lot of pain to be able to bring me to life).
.
You may think that kids her age are too young to be able to understand this concept. But from my experience, the kids are gaining so much more by learning about appreciation from an early age.
