16 Apr 2021 - The first time I went to dabao dinner for the family. Awwwww.

The big girl was planning to take the bus on her own for the first time and meet us at the mall after her oral exams today. However, our plans changed at the last minute and we decided to stay home instead.

She was a tad disappointed and told me that despite her initial fear, she was actually looking forward to travelling by herself. I was happy and relieved to hear that, and wished I could let her do something since she was feeling enthusiastic. So I said "How about you walk to the food court yourself and buy back dinner since the rest are still sleeping?"

There was a twinkle in her eyes and she immediately sprang into action as she took a pen and paper to take my orders. I told her to buy 2 packets of 白鸡饭, 1 packet of 烧鸡尾饭, 1 油菜, 4 卤蛋, 2 slices of watermelon and 2 slices of rock melon. She took her bag, wallet, keys, card, mask and happily skipped out of the house after telling her sister who was still lying in bed "I'm going to buy dinner!"

I wasn't worried about her because I knew this girl is cautious, observant and responsible. Indeed, she came back promptly with all our orders within half an hour. Woohoo! Mission accomplished!

It was a milestone for her and I think she is definitely ready to travel by the train or bus on her own already. For me, it's a reminder that the time has come to let go even more, knowing that I've taught her and trained her well enough to be independent.

I said to her "Next time we don't need to order food delivery liao, you can just go out and buy for us." To which she smiled and said "Okay!" I think this gives her a sense of achievement just as it gives me a sense of pride. It also makes her feel confident, brave and happy, knowing that she did something for the family. So kudos to ya, dear Angel! I am proud of you! ❤

P.S. She is wearing my shirt here and it makes me feel emotional seeing it. I passed her some of mine because she has outgrown hers recently. Yup, growth spurt, she also eats more than me already and can soon share my shoes too. Awww. Kids grow up really fast, don't they?

A day that deserves to be remembered.

It was my first rock climbing experience with my Dad and the kids were in awe as they witnessed him scaling up the walls. He was initially worried if he could even climb at all but it turned out that he managed to conquer half a dozen of the walls and the staff even came over to ask him his age and whether he was a commando. Haha.

Yup, the kids exclaimed "阿公很厉害! Ah Gong is awesome!" and even said he made it look effortless. But I knew he put in a lot of strength and determination for each wall and was clearly tired after some time though he never gave up trying or encouraging the kids to go higher too.

It was one of the best ways I could teach my kids to 活到老学到老, to never give up believing in yourself, to be curious, adventurous and bold enough to try, to stay fit and healthy even as the years pass by.

We had such a fun and exhausting session and I know this will be a fond memory etched in our minds for a long time. Yup, 3 gens scaling a rock wall, it really doesn't happen often.

Thanks to my Dad for being so spontaneous and to the kids for trying their best and not giving up easily too. Let's see when we can do this again!

The girls have officially graduated from their first magic course and they're thrilled to perform for you their latest tricks, woohoo!

These two have been taking classes from @acelacademyofmagic during the CB period and the good thing about the online classes is that we can do it in the comfort of our own home. They attended a total of 8 lessons in the Orange Wand Course, each lasting 1.5 hrs, thus clocking a total of 12 hours in total. I must say I've never seen them so enthusiastic about learning new things but for the past two weeks, they had been eagerly looking forward to every lesson with much vigour and zest.

Besides learning new skills, the best part was seeing how they enjoyed the whole process and had lots of laughter and fun with their mentor Nigel and newfound friends who share a passion in magic. Through playing games, answering questions and doing performances at every class, it was evident how they built up their self-confidence, stretched their imagination and increasingly believed in their own abilities.

When I asked them to describe the course in three words, they said "Fun, Exciting and Wonderful!" The use of a variety of props, including playing cards, hanky, ribbons, balls, coins and more - these were mailed to our home - made the tricks even more interesting and appealing too. After each lesson, they both couldn't wait to practise and perfect their tricks and then showed it to everyone at home. I bet they wish they can continue to learn even more tricks so that they can perform for their family and friends in future.

Thanks to Acel Academy of Magic for this absolutely fun-filled and eye-opening magical experience! It definitely helped to fuel their passion, strengthened their determination and brought about lots of joy not just for these two magic lovers but for the rest of us who get to watch their shows and see their happy faces too.
