【美式生活口語辨析：goal 的用法】

《用英文來達成妳的目標！》

※當我們努力地想要實現夢想的同時，也必須要懂得按部就班來。這時我們就會設下目標，並期望能夠將目標逐個逐個地達成。一般說來，目標有分成三種：短期、中期、長期。而它們在英文中的說法，就各自為 short-term / mid-term / long-term goal 。

EX. My mid-term goal is to take the internship at a local company around here.(我的中期目標是要進入這附近的某家公司實習。)

※訂定目標的「訂定」則可以用 set 來表示，後面還可加上介系詞片語 for oneself 來表示「為某人自己(訂定目標)」。

EX. He set a goal for himself to visit 20 countries within a year.
(他為自己訂下了一年內要拜訪20個國家的目標。)

※在訂下目標以後，則是要想辦法去達成，這時我們可用 take a step (or steps) to achieve / reach a goal 來表示「一步步地達成目標」。

EX. It’s not an impossible mission if you can take careful steps to reach the goal.
(如果妳能小心翼翼地一步步達成目標，這並非不可能的任務。)

1. X to be synonymous with Y

X和Y緊密相連、可視為同一件事
e.g. Practice, in fact, is not synonymous with progress. 練習不代表進步。

2. divorce X from Y 將X和Y分離

e.g. It's hard, if not impossible, to divorce sports from politics. 將體育和政治分離是很困難的一件事。

3. shed / throw / cast light on 闡明、幫助理解

e.g. These results may shed light on our understanding of origins of the universe. 這些結果可能會對於我們理解宇宙的起源有幫助。

4. to be subject to 受制於、依賴於

e.g. The availability of food in this menu is subject to weather conditions.
這份菜單上食物的供應狀況受制於天氣狀況。

5. pave the way for 為～鋪路、為～奠定基礎

The Supreme Court decision paved the way for further legislation on civil rights.
這項最高法院的決議替未來人權法案的制定奠定了基礎。

爲了以後翻找方便，剛剛研究了一下怎麽將不同角色分開放在不同相簿......
結果是失敗了。嘗試把上傳了的照片搬入新相簿，原有的照片居然會被刪掉！被刪掉！被刪掉。。。T_>T！

I understand that not everyone can understand Cantonese so I will always type in formal Chinese. But since English is not my mother language, I am not good in English. To avoid making myself a laughing stock , there won't be bilingual broadcasting in every post. It will be good if you can read Chinese, but in case you can't, well, maybe the facebook auto translation can help you? '_>'
But of course I can handle with simple conversations. If anyone find the auto translation impossible to understand, and desperately want to know what I have typed, feel free to yell for a manual translation under the posts. Special service for you hahaha. Huh and chit chats are welcomed!!!
