昨天有人說我是寫歌怪物。
我很開心得到大家的認可，也真的超感動看到「煙幕」累積到那麼好的成績。

只是你們沒有聽到我手機電腦裡難聽要死的demo語音。
有好多好多的旋律可能一生都不會形成一首真正的作品。

有些唱了唱就忘了。
有些哼了一下立馬刪掉。
有些是強迫自己也寫不下去。
有些寫完了也不敢拿出去給人聽。
有些你覺得很棒的人家都覺得難聽。

台上一分鐘，台下十年功

我從小寫了有上百首，我可以保證有一大堆都是垃圾。
（甚至把他們從Bandcamp和SoundCloud刪了😂）
但是還是繼續寫，cause practice makes perfect
而且量多了，總有一首應該還不錯喔！哈哈哈

「假如我是你」是我在2019/12《寫》的，我當初記得我就很愛最後這一句。
不過沒有感覺，寫不下去了，算了，完完全全的就忘記了。

結果去年十月份隨便聽手機語音的時候有聽到了，這次也就有靈感了。
經過多次的改版，終於成形了，變成你們聽到的這首歌。
而且，最終成品還要包含編曲，製作，混音，MV拍攝，妝髮等等的！
真的要下好多功夫才會有一首歌曲。

總而言之，你們聽到的只是那「一分鐘」。今天給你們聽一下「十年功」。

I got called a songwriting beast/machine yesterday.
Obviously stoked and honoured, and very proud of Smokescreen’s amazing results.

However, no one ever hears my shitty demos on my laptop and cellphone.
I have to many terrible terrible melodies that will probably never see the light of day.

Some you sing and forget about.
Some you hum it out loud and flush it immediately.
Some you really force yourself to finish, but it just doesn’t work.
Some are too embarrassing for others to hear (hehe my raps).
Some I think are amazing, and everyone else hates them.

As a Chinese saying goes: ‘One minute on stage, ten years of work backstage’

I’ve written over hundreds of songs, and I can promise you that most of them are trash.
(Deleted a whole bunch from Bandcamp & Soundcloud because, well, garbage.)
But I keep writing, cause you know, practice makes perfect.
Also, if you write a shit ton, one of them is bound to be good, right?!

If I Were You was ‘written’ in Dec 2019. I just really like that 1 particular line out of my wreck of a voice memo. But I had no inspiration, so I just kind of gave up and forgot about it.

Fast forward to Oct 2020, I got bored in quarantine and started going through my voice memos and suddenly had an inspiration. (Thank you, bad break up!)
Going through numerous stages of metamorphosis, it finally became the song that you guys heard.
Plus, the ‘final version’ includes arrangement, mixing, MV shoot, makeup, etc. Takes a village to get a song out.

2020 第 22 屆 台北電影節 Taipei Film Festival 完整片單上線！受到友站 阿瑪珂德與童年放映室 啟發，特別統整了本屆影展所有影片的 Letterboxd 分數供參。

Water. Its natural qualities like fluidity and texture, its physical power and symbolism; its pervasiveness and necessity; but most prominently, its beauty - has somehow lent itself as inspiration to how I express musically.

1992: My frantic mother loses track of her young toddler at a crowded shopping centre. I was later found nearby spellbound by an aquarium.
⠀
2007: Interning at an architectural design firm in Melbourne, the principal designer sat me down and got me to flick through books of product designs and pick out designs that resonated with me. Pondering my subsequent selection, he mused, “your theme - it’s water”.

2018: I released my instrumental EP, Elevate. This song snippet is from The Change, which explores metamorphosis through the movement of water and its epic ability to transform landscapes through erosion.

2020: Thank you to those of you who notice and appreciate my music work, especially a handful of you who have followed me from the beginning since Facebook and YouTube. To everyone else, thanks for being here and welcome to my world.

A symphony of strings and electronic sounds, The Change features the violin as a solo instrument in a lyrical representation of the process of metamorphosis.
 
At the cusp of a major change, be it of oneself or delving into new waters, there is a certain feeling of excitement, hope, melancholy, anticipation and victory which The Change hopes to encapsulate.
