I love fall vibes. 🍂☺️☔️😊☕️ / I've been meeting a lot of people and designers for coffee and I learned a few things:

1. I should have started meeting up with people much earlier, even when I didn't have a decent UX Design portfolio (which you can check out at www.nickng.social) to show them. I spent the entire summer on building it and wasted quite some time on things that didn't add values, which to some extents is normal. It's part of process after all. Even still, I only realized what really worked and what didn't when I met up with fellow designers. That just tells me how important getting feedback is.

2. I feel more energized and encouraged after talking to people, especially one to one. I'm pleasantly surprised how supportive people can be sometimes. Perhaps designers are simply empathetic in nature. But I'm glad that the advice I get from every single designer I met with so far is beyond invaluable. You can only learn so much from the internet or in school. I love learning from people because you get to know their experience.

3. This is not related to meeting people for coffee but starting out in UX/UI design or tech in general. Sometimes I wonder if I should have stayed in school just to get more UX Design co-op experience. There are quite a few junior UX design positions but many of them are co-op which you could only apply if you're in school...and getting an "intern"/contract after school for a junior position is challenging (cuz you need "real experience", duh). A portfolio is necessary but not sufficient. Just throwing this out there if anyone is interested in getting into UX/UI Design.

Start thinking about what you want to do earlier and say no to things that don't actually benefit you.

Been slacking a little. I need to get back to the grind. 👊🏻👊🏻👊🏻 Fighting mode is back on! / Side note, the Matcha Latte 🍵, Iced London Fog (infused with Lavender!!) and Tuna Tataki here are absolutely bomb 💣. This place used to be Basho Cafe. I was here 3 years ago and I honestly couldn't tell the difference. Same quality good, friendly staff, and cozy space. / Also can you tell that I just gave birth to wisdom, and by that I mean I just had my wisdom teeth (2 of them) removed?

✨ F e e l i n g G o o d a n d L o o k i n g F i n e ✨ I've been spending a lot of time in coffee shops and at my home for the past few months. I noticed that if I'm not feeling totally comfortable, my productivity drops. My apartment doesn't have AC so it gets pretty hot during the day but only for a few hours. That gives me a reason to leave my place and buy expensive coffee. But it can also be something extremely insignificant, too. For instance, I planned to get some work done in a cafe today but I stayed for only 30 mins because my hands were too dry. I went home then just so I could moisturize them. It's silly. But I couldn't focus when my hands crack every time I type.

The tricky thing is I don't know if the discomfort actually affects my work or if I'm giving myself excuses to procrastinate. Sometimes the former is the case; sometimes it's the latter.
