I'm at Hong Kong's Graham Street Market speaking with David Olson, the Director of Conservation at the #WorldWildlifeFund.
Amid the #pandemic, there are growing calls around the world to shut down #wetmarkets over disease concerns. Olson says the problem lies *not* in wet markets where fresh produce, fish and meat are sold under strict regulations... but in the illegal wild animal trade.
"The message really is to end the #wildlife trade," he tells me. "The sale of wildlife for consumption, for other purposes. This is what's creating the situation where diseases can jump from wild species to humans."
And attitudes in Asia are changing.
About 93% of about 5,000 people surveyed by #WWF in March across three Southeast Asian nations as well as Hong Kong and Japan said unregulated markets selling wildlife should be shut down to prevent future pandemics.
