I strive for excellence and perfection. Sometimes it is realistic, Sometimes it is not. When i was younger, it often became a trap for self-disappointment. Now that i am (just a smidgen) older, I can admit to myself that it's okay if I don't achieve it. What's important is that i aim for it.

I remember saying this during a session with one of my 1:1 clients, and she asked me to hold up so she could write it down (then I did, too!).

We confuse the concept of Ihsan — excellence — with perfection by believing that things have to be perfect and we have to be perfect in order for us to be excellent.

Says who?
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Ihsan is a state of excelling, when the head, limbs, and heart are working in harmony towards a unified goal for the sake of Allah's pleasure — in worship and daily activities.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Perfection is reserved for The One Who is perfect in every way.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
We might be excelling, and yet our circumstances aren't perfect, our health might not be perfect, and our bank balance might not be perfect. And really, even if all those things were, the truth will remain: we're inherently flawed beings — imperfect.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Rather than beating yourself up for being perfectly human, switch gears to strive for excellence, knowing that things might be a little wonky because ihsan isn't perfection, it's putting in your best in heart, mind, and limbs.
