MEDIA STATEMENT: ACT AGAINST "PERIOD SPOT CHECKS" IN SCHOOLS
1. The current trending issue that has been going around on Malaysian students (former and present) are sharing disturbing stories of period spot checks and sexual harassment in school during the month of Ramadhan. Having to prove to their teachers and higher ups that they were on their period also means having their private parts touched without consent (on the context of teacher and student relationship) as well as having their panties removed to show their menstrual pads. These form of intrusion and violation of inappropriate touching, personal autonomy and body shaming through the excuse of ‘disciplinary punishment’ but in reality, it was entirely sexual harassment and abuse of power. A school or educational institutions should create an environment where students can be at peace of mind and feel safe from the secular world outside.
2. The fact that this mortifying misconduct is still happening to our students now without any measures being taken against the perpetrators is disgusting! We must stand together and put to an end of what seems so shockingly common in our society. The trauma and mental stress of being groped and touched without consent can be shattering, leaving the victim feeling traumatized, depressed and ashamed. Trauma has lasting effects.
3. Making the decision to report misconduct like such or sexual harassment takes a great deal of courage. I applaud those who gather every ounce of their courage in speaking up. Your voice is needed for the safety of other students in school and future generations to come.
4. I call upon the Ministry of Education to take prompt action and investigations by relevant authorities in ensuring that the safety of our school students will be the top priority. As schools are supposed to be conducive sanctuaries where students can feel safe and confident, let us not shatter that part of trust from our girls.
5. Sexual harassment has no place in a school. If this persist on, it defeats the purpose of an educational institution entirely.

Today marks the 6 year anniversary that I left SoCal and landed in Saigon. 22 years old. More fearless and ignorant than I am now. I just received my diploma and I was off. Just like that. No job lined up. I knew nobody in the city. I had 1000 dollars to my name and over 10,000 in student loans. The only camera I owned was one that uses Mini DV cassette tapes that I had to rewind and transfer to my laptop with a fire wire cable. My parents didn't want me to go. I know I made my mother so worried the past few years. I left my car that I spent years building. I left my friends. I left my cherished fish collection. I never thought I would last over six months though. And I couldn't have if certain people didn't give me a chance. If the schools and academies didn't give me a chance, then there would be no YouTube channel like today. Without work, I wouldn't have been able to fund traveling and equipment upgrades and you wouldn't be reading this. It only happened through hard work. Life was hard early on. I was sleeping in a friend's (former stranger) kitchen because I couldn't afford a deposit. I would wait until everyone went to sleep so I could record a voice over narration for videos that I made for fun. I made videos for two years on my old channel without any monetization. I wish I knew how earlier. I used to cry during rainy rush hour commutes because my tears would mix with the rain water so my roommate wouldn't see and then make fun of me. I taught everything and everywhere they wanted me to. Little kids to adults in the countryside. I did it all. And life did get better. There were some amazing moments and a lot of fun times. But there was always work behind it. The only way to grow and progress is to work even harder and longer. Life in Vietnam got easier, but life never gets easier. If it does, then you're slacking off. I'm no where near the level of success that I want to be at, but I'm happy with my journey so far. I'm very thankful for you guys who have followed me even when my videos were garbage. The recent support with the Africa video has been amazing. Finally, after 600+ videos, I felt like I finally made a really good one. But, I couldn't have done all of this initially on my own. I'm thankful for everyone who believed in me enough to give me opportunities. But the grind continues as always and I hope what I've contributed to Vietnam and the Vietnamese diaspora has been helpful or valuable to you guys as it has been to my own personal development. I'm glad I'm not 22 anymore. That guy was annoying. Remember to work hard and be flexible. I can't wait for you guys to see a few more Vietnam videos that I filmed over the past few weeks. These last ones are going to be worth it.

"A colleague once told me, ‘You are being too nice to the patients, you are spoiling them.’ Some people even urged me not to treat patients in the public hospital with the ‘private’ manner. But can we ever be ‘too nice’ to the people who suffer? Is there such thing as 'public medicine' versus 'private medicine'? I only know of 'best medicine'." - Dr. Tai-Chung Lam (Clinical Assistant Professor, Department of Clinical Oncology, HKU)

What was the most depressing thing throughout your career?
"It is the conflicts with colleagues. Everybody wanted to serve the needy when they first entered medical schools, but institutional culture can totally change a person in a flash. The Hospital Authority has achieved great success in providing efficient medical services in Hong Kong. However, if we only measure ourselves with quantifiable parameters, the quality of practice will be jeopardised.
A colleague once told me, ‘You are being too nice to the patients, you are spoiling them.’ Some people even urged me not to treat patients in the public hospital with the ‘private’ manner. But can we ever be ‘too nice’ to the people who suffer? Is there such thing as 'public medicine' versus 'private medicine'? I only know of 'best medicine'. No doubt every doctor wants to do more for their patients, yet we are experiencing an immense shortage of resources and overwhelming workload, such that the system promotes the thinking of ‘I shouldn’t treat them better’, this is the most depressing thing to me."
Is there something to do with the medical system?
The flawed system stems from society; our society is illiberally stingy to the sick people that we have yet to increase resources and manpower. It is miserable how the general public only focus on individuals’ faults instead of the shortage of resources whenever medical blunders happen. The involved personnel do have to bear the responsibility, but every one makes mistakes. A system which solely relies on saints to function must be a defective one. As doctors, we have to voice out against such institutional culture and make sure we do right by our patients.

This video is on epic Japanese commercials involving cool highschool girls, not meant to be suggestive or sexual (as some might think from the title).
Each of these commercials are epic in different ways. It could be epic in the humour, the physicality, or just the concept of the commercial.
Here they are:
1. Late For School
About a girl who is late for class. So what does she do to try and make it on time?
2. Voice Over
Starts off with a young male student who has just moved to Tokyo and, let's just say he seems eager to meet some girls.
3. Subway Samurai
This commercial asks you a question at the start, 'How many guys does the highschool girl slash?'. It appears to be a counting game.
4. Ninja Chase
Couple of girls are mucking around with a camera filming each other and one gets embarrassed and runs away....the chase is on!
5. Mysterious Classroom
This video starts off with a teacher who is about to enter her classroom full of students, but mystery looms in this classroom at an all girl's high school.
There is a secret...can you solve the mystery?
Which was your favourite highschool girl commercial?
