關於味道 (flavor) 的種種表達方法，特別是「濃味」或者「淡味」，我們一般可以說Could you add more seasoning to the food? (可以加多點調味料嗎？) 或者Could you not use so much seasoning? (可以令食物清淡一點嗎？)
事實上，我們還能從食物的「口感」及「質感」來描述不同的味道：
• 多辣 / 少辣: spicier / less spicy
• 多甜 / 少甜: sweeter / less sweet
• 較酸 / 少酸: more sour / not as sour
• 加多點胡椒 / 少點胡椒: more pepper / not too much pepper
• 湯汁較濃: thicker
• 渣較多: chunkier
• 奶油味濃: creamier
• 煙燻味重: smokier
• 較有咬勁: more chewy
• 較脆: crispier
• 無味道: bland
• 濃味 / 淡味 (指酒或咖啡): stronger / weaker
日後如果在飲食上，你有不同的「要求」，你便需要用上這些不同的詞彙，譬如：
• [情境一] 要求較脆: crispier
Customer: Excuse me. The fries are cold and they could be crispier.（麻煩你，這些薯條有點涼，而且可以弄得更脆。）
• [情境二] 要求少辣：less spicy
Customer: I don’t want the buffalo wings to be too spicy. Could you ask the kitchen to go easy on the hot sauce? （我的水牛城雞翼不要那麼辣，可不可以放少一點辣醬？）
• [情境三] 要求少甜：less sweet
Customer: I’d like a cup of tea. But I’d prefer it to be less sweet.（我想點一杯茶，但不要太甜。）
• [情境四] 味道太淡：bland
Customer: Excuse me. The steak tastes bland. Can I have some salt and pepper? （不好意思。我的牛扒有點淡。）
• [情境五] - 要求多渣：chunky
Customer: I’d like an orange juice with chunky pulp, please. （我想要一杯橙汁，要多一點渣的。）
最後，假如平時在外面吃飯想健康一點，最常用的一句莫過於：Please go light on the salt. (食物請少放一點鹽。)
