When I was 5, I already knew I was supposed to be a role model for my younger brother, go to university, marry a husband who makes good money, and have children before my 30s.
That’s what I mean by the Chamber of Shoulds. And I’m telling you, it’s suffocating.
I followed those shoulds because they were the only things I knew. And ended up in my mid-20s both lost and depressed.
Like someone who goes through 3 traumatic relationships and vows to never love again, I was determined to run away from all expectations. That was part of the reasons why I went off doing my own thing.
However, at some point, I realized that the only way to escape from all expectations is to 1) make friend with Elon Musk 2) convince him to send me in one of his space ships to an unknown planet.
I realized that to be able to function in the world, I need to learn how to live with expectations. 🙏

Is a U.S.-China hot war imminent?|Lee Yee
In July, Pompeo claimed the American policy towards China is harsher than the one towards the Soviet Union in the Cold War era. The approach has been shifted from “listening to its words and watching its deeds” to “ignoring its words and only watching its deeds”. Recent developments show that the U.S. is striding closer and closer to a complete de-linkage with China. The recall of the ambassador from China was just a prelude. What followed was the U.S. official interpretation that “one China policy” is not equivalent to “one China principle”, plus the emphasis that “the U.S. holds no specific standpoint towards the sovereignty of Taiwan”. Furthermore, during the visit of Krach, U.S. Under Secretary of State, Tsai Ing-wen stated that “Taiwan has the determination to take the critical step”. Adding fuel to this, Hsiao Bi Khim, Taiwan’s delegate at the Taipei Economic and Cultural Representative Office in the U.S., introduced herself as the “Taiwan Ambassador to the U.S.” on Twitter. In view of all these, is the U.S. going to establish diplomatic relation with Taiwan? Will it turn out to be the “October surprise” before the U.S. presidential election? In response, China dispatched fighter jets to violate the airspace of Taiwan, and as “Global Times” put it, “this was not a gesture of warning, but an actual combat exercise of attacking Taiwan”. In return, Taiwan authority urged China “not to underestimate its armed forces' resolve in safeguarding Taiwan”. As tension keeps building up across the Strait, will the U.S. intervene and finally trigger a U.S.-China hot war?
For the last few months, while analyzing the situation, quite a few observers have drawn upon the “Thucydides trap” originated from an ancient Greek historian. According to this theory, when an emerging power threatens to displace an existing great power as an international hegemony, there will be an unavoidable tendency towards war.
To be frank, these observers may have well overestimated the strength of China. Thanks to its huge population, China has become the second largest economic entity in the world. But we are now living in an era that national strength is rather defined by technological advancement. In reality, China is militarily inferior to Russia and technologically lagging far behind major western countries. To put it simply, China is yet to be capable of challenging the American dominance.
Back in the 1980s, in the heyday of its economic development, Japan has significantly outperformed the U.S. in the capital market, and some American scholars have come to the “Japan No.1” conclusion. Despite this, there was never a sign of military confrontation between U.S. and Japan. A decade later, the formation of the European Union posed new challenge to the American supremacy. But again, the two did not come anywhere close to a war. So why has the emergence of China, which in fact lacks the capabilities to overwhelm the U.S., aroused much anticipation of war?
Rudolph Rummel, an American professor of political studies, have made a thorough analysis on the correlation between wars and democracy in human history. After humans surviving a thousand years of darkness, it was not until the independence of the U.S. in 1776 that unveiled a democratic institution with public elections, separation of powers, multi-party system as well as freedom of speech, press, religion and assembly. After more than a hundred years, in 1900 there were only 13 democratic countries in the world. And after another decade, in 2015 the rose to 130, and dictatorial states without meaningful elections have become the minority.
According to Rummel’s statistics, there were 371 wars between 1816 and 2005. Among them, 205 were fought between two dictatorial countries and 166 between democratic and dictatorial ones. Interestingly, there had not been a single war between democratic countries. The conclusion is all too obvious: if there were only democratic states on earth, wars would not happen.
And here lies the fundamental reason why the “Thucydides Trap” has been more valid in the old days when dictatorial systems prevailed, but has failed to apply in contemporary cases between two democratic countries. And it also explains why the competitions between the U.S. and Japan or the EU have not led to any war, while the challenge from China will probably end up differently.
In a democratic system, to wage a war requires a consensus among the government, legislature, media and public opinion. It is rather a matter of the people’s collective will than the ruler’s subjective decision. Whereas within a dictatorial structure, no approval from the legislature is needed, media and public opinion are never respected and judicial challenge simply does not exist. A dictator or oligarch can just go to war at will.
From a dictator’s point of view, whether to enter a war or not is not subject to external circumstance, but the domestic status of his ruling. When a dictator’s position gets shaken by severe economic downturn and widespread public discontent, he will try to divert domestic dissatisfaction by means of foreign maneuvers. The dictator tends to single out those “non-conforming groups”, as so identified by the “little pink” Chinese patriots, and tries bullying them, as what the CCP is doing in India, Hong Kong and Inner Mongolia. The objective is to distract attention with extreme nationalism. More often than not, stirring up external instability has become a tactic to secure domestic stability of the dictator’s rule.
Perhaps a shrewd dictator will weigh up the strength of his counterpart before taking action. Nevertheless, the intrinsically defective system may hinder the dictator from understanding the reality and accessing different views. And personal intellectual and intelligent inadequacies may also breed unrealistic self-inflating belief. The resulted stupidity can make a tragedy more imminent than everyone may expect.

Repost :
Someone wrote this:
More than 20,000 FWs are now quarantined in several large dormitories. Confirmed infections up to 9 April reads
- S11 Dormitory : 283 cases
- Westlite Toh Guan : 49 cases
- Toh Guan : 25 cases
- Sungei Tengah Lodge : 43 cases
- Tampines Dormitory : 38 cases
- Cochrane Lodge : 9 cases
- Kranji Lodge : 7 cases
- 55 Sungei Kadut : 7 cases
- Project Glory : 37 cases
- 6 Battery Road : 5 cases
- Mustafa : 57 cases
- Keppel Shipyard : 17 cases
These are males. They have girlfriends.
Another large group, of the opposite female gender, are domestic workers (helpers). They are not in dormitories, they live in a Spore family household. Typically, they do not open up their private lives to their employers who do not know who their boyfriends are.
Infected persons can be infectious before they develop symptoms. The caveat is that their emissions of droplets and microdroplets are probably very low in covid19 virusload.
Spore has about 1,000,000 FWs population (ballpark number). They are housed in 43 dormitories in S’pore. Some have bad conditions like overcrowding and poor ventilation. This increase the risk of infection within the FW population in each dormitory.
For the purpose of a very simple transmission modeling, take an example of a 20,000 FW aggregate group.
If up to 2% are infected, this means 400 FWs.
Like the average Sporean, FWs also visit supermarkets, take mrt and buses etc. These are transient presence.
What I want to highlight are situations for *sustained interactions* where infections has a high chance of happening.
The 400 FWs could infect onwards their girlfriends.
This could bring covid19 right into Sporean households in large numbers.
*IF* their girlfriends are mostly domestic helpers, and *half* are infected, these 200 infected helpers will be the trigger to tip S’pore families into a covid19 disaster.
This is the point where much worse things can very quickly spiral out of control in a very probable chain of large sustained group infection interactions.
We’re talking possibly 200 infected households.
A helper in a household typically look after at least 1 child. So possibly
- 400 infected parents,
- 200 infected grandparents (assuming 1 per family)
- 400 infected kids (assuming 2 kids per family)
We now have onward infections:
- Parents goes to their companies with many co-office workers.
- Grandparents are the most vulnerable group. With their underlying conditions, this aged group will take up most of our bed resources in hospital ICUs and high dependency wards (I’m also talking limited numbers of ventilators).
- Children go to school. They would infect their classmates. Typically 30-40 in a class.
Worse, these other kids goes home to their families. Again, another set of 2 parents, a grandparent and probably another sibling. They will cause disastrous onward infections.
- Sibling goes to school, in a different class. Perhaps a different school. Onward infections.
If such a covid19 infection interaction chain develops, it is truly disastrous.
In the last few days of increasing unlinked cases leading up to circuit breaker (great use of neutral language to describe lockdown measures), I was very concerned about the start of widespread community infections.
When the circuit breaker was implemented, I heaved a sigh of relief. Not a day too soon.
Now, when I learn that FWs now are the group of newly formed clusters, and I consider the consequences of this simple model of onward interactions and infections, I am determined to advocate as strenuously as possibly that everyone stays at home and work from home.
Take this circuit breaker (lockdown in another word) seriously.
The FW-domestic helpers contact is the weakest link in Spore society that is not usually discussed.
Do not downplay this simple model for what could already have quietly happened in the last 1 or 2 weeks.
*We need to maintain viligance, even after 4 May,* when the simple model can kick in to trigger and project covid19 right inside your hitherto safe family.
I advocate we all adopt a war footing against covid19.
We are the frontline of defence. Docs, nurses and hospitals are our last line of defence.
Stay home. Keep safe.
Keep everyone safe.

Hi! Katie here:) Thank you so so so much for 100K subscribers!!! It's crazy to think that one hundred thousand people clicked on the subscribe button.
When I started this channel I was right in the middle of an identity crisis. Moving a lot and experiencing bullying& xenophobism can do much to a child. There wasn't something I stood out with as well, no friends/talent/hometown or anything in particular. Being biracial didn't help me out as well, I kept asking myself, what the hell am I and what's the point in living (welp that went dark) But when I started making ASMR videos I received so many kind responses from you guys, you guys accepted me and I'm so incredibly grateful. I finally feel like I belong somewhere and damn that feels great xD It's like I gained a bit of confidence from you guys, cause I was able to make friends :D And so that's why I want to give back to you:) Just like how you guys made me feel better, I hope I can do the same for you too. I'll work hard to make the 100K milestone not the final destination but a stepping stone :) Thank you for always sticking with me :) I love you all very much I can't wait to make great memories with you guys in the future!
Oof I wrote a lot. Anyways!!! This video has been requested by oddly a lot of you guys. I repeat my usual "hey guys its asmr bluekatie" intro for a looooong time. It's weird I know. Just repeating would be boring I thought, so I added some triggers whilst I hypnotize you to sleep. Why 33 you ask? I have no idea. I was tired after filming the 33th trigger and I gave up okay ? This video is a mess but I did my best -_- Thank u so much for watching! Please follow my twitter, instagram and subscribe&like? love u guys and have a good night??
Please help me put subtitles on my videos! x

This is a trade on Pound Aussie, the daily time frame, and I just want to share with you my thought process to why I took this trade. So you can see that the price pretty much came into this area of resistance over here. Over here price came into this level and it got rejected, right? Cause you saw you saw this bearish reversal pattern at a nice round number of one point eight. And this obvious market structure resistance. So when this occurred, I told myself that I wanna get short because I'm against this obvious market structure. So I'm going down to a lower time frame, the four hour time frame, to look for an entry trigger.
One ATR is somewhere about here and I went short. And as you can see at this point in time - boom. I just got stopped out. The market just rallied against me and I took the loss on this trade. Now at this point, I wanna say that I don't regret making this trade. Yes I am wrong on this trade. The market has proved me wrong big time. But I have my stops in place to kinda contain the losses. But what happens is that, what if you hesitate to take the loss? What if you are thinking, lets say for example at this point in time, the price is now back at resistance.
You can see that trading is all about balancing your risk to reward. You never know how much the market will move in your favor. You never know how much the market will move against you. All you can do is to have a set of rule to play good defense and to take what the market offers you. So the three trades I shared with you, although the first two are losing trades, it hit my stop loss, I'm just protecting myself.
So I kinda leave it to you, depending on your trading goals, how you want to manage this trade. Right this is platinum. Another trade that I want to share with you is the Pound against the Swiss Franc. This one over here you can see that this market is in a down trend. In fact, there is this minor structure over here that I didn't draw it, but you can see it over here. That's that once, here, okay, and then here second time, and then third time over here. But what's interesting is that if you look at the four hour timeframe, there is a chart pattern that is showing you signs of weakness in the market.
This is a chart pattern, is what we call the descending triangle. Notice that there is lower highs coming into this area of support. This tells you that the buyers try to push price higher, but keep getting smashed down lower by the sellers at lower and lower prices. So now the buyers are kinda constrained, they are pushed into a corner. And if you ask me, there's a good chance, there's a good chance that this market could break down lower. So what I'm looking for is for a break and close below this area of support. If it does, again I'll go short, have my stops one ATR above this high, somewhere here, and try to ride the downward swing. And see, and to take what the market offers. If it's not going to offer anything I just bail out and say "Sayonara. Thank you and I'm out. See ya."
So that's what I'm doing on this Pound Swiss Franc trade. That's the setup that I'm looking at, okay? So these are the couple of trading opportunities that I feel that is worth watching for this coming week. And hopefully the first three trades that I share with you are good lessons to kinda ground you into what you should expect from trading. So with that said I have come to the end of this week's market analysis. If you have enjoyed it please hit the subscribe button below. Just click on it, duh duh duh click. Hit the like button. If you have any feedback, comments, questions, leave it in the comment section below and I'll get back to you. Alright so that's it. I wish you good luck and good trading until next time.

0:25 Forex Trading Tip #1
Enter your trades near market structure. So let me share with you how not to do it, right? So firstly, right, often, traders will look at a chart, right. So, let's say, for example, the red one here is your stop loss. The green one is your entry point. And the blue one is your, so-called take profit level. So, traders, they will see this chart, and they say, oh, man, the price is, you know, coming down, lower and lower. Let me, you know, hop on board before you know, I miss the move.
2:51 Forex Trading Tip #2
The second tip is this, right, is that you want to trade breakouts with buildup. So what is buildup, right? Let me explain. For those of you who have been following me a while now, you're already a pro at this. So a buildup means, right, a tight consolidation where the range of the candles gets smaller and smaller. So you can see that over here, this blue box, this is what we call a buildup over here.
4:10 Forex Trading Tip #3
This is a sign of strength that a market is likely to breakout higher. Another variation of this, right, is what we call higher lows into resistance. This is a sign of strength, as well. Notice, you see the higher lows, higher lows, higher lows, higher lows, into resistance. The concept is somewhat similar to the buildup, but this time 'round, it's telling you that buyers are willing to buy at this higher price instead. It's why you see higher lows into resistance. Right, so this is also another sign of strength, right.
4:28 Forex Trading Tip #4
The fourth tip that I want to share with you is what I call the first pullback. So often, right, the price, it can break out. And if it breaks out, right, you might have missed the move, right, if you didn't catch the breakout. But don't worry, because more often than not, right, the price will give you a chance to re-enter, to catch the trend.
5:23 Forex Trading Tip #5
The fifth thing that I want to share with you is to set your stop loss, right, away from market structure, because often, what traders do is that let's say, the market is in a range, okay? They go long, right, and price hits up higher, they go long over here. Where do they put their stop loss? They put their stop loss just below this level of support. And what happens? Well, the market could just as well come down lower, trigger your stop loss, and then continue higher. So this is why, right, you don't want to put your stop loss just below support, or just above resistance.
7:22 Forex Trading Tip #6
The sixth tip that I want to share with you is entry technique, right, to profit from traders who long breakout, and then they got trapped. Here's how it works. So this is what I call the false break set-up. So you can see that over here, area of resistance, resistance, market broke out of resistance on this candle. You can imagine, right, that actually at one point in time, this candle was looking bullish, something like this, okay?
9:16 Forex Trading Tip #7
And the last tip that I want to share with you is this, right. Use limit order for a better risk-to-reward on our trades. So let me share with you an example. So you can see over here, alright, this is a chart of Euro Yen for our timeframe. How do I know that, because it's over here. Okay, so, this is a very typical set-up that traders will trade prices at an area of support, right? Coming to an area of support, right. Now this step once, twice, you can mark up your support level. It's going to be quite obvious. And then, this bullish reversal candle is so bullish, right? You suddenly just hit a massive reversal, and close near this highs over here.
Check out my website, download these two books, right, click this blue button, and I'll send it to your email address for free, right? And that's it, right.
