懷孕是一件幸福的事,亦是一件很炎熱的事!尤其懷孕後期正值炎夏的孕媽媽們,因為孕婦體溫比正常人要高;但孕婦不宜多喝生冷飲品,否則有損脾胃又聚濕,凍飲的冰塊有可能含有致命的李斯特菌,難道為了寶寶健康就只有忍?讓中醫師教你一些孕婦消暑小貼士!
生活篇:
- 可涼冷氣但不宜直吹,並且要注意室內外溫差,室內冷氣溫度不宜調得太低,否則一熱一冷容易生病
- 游泳降溫,泳後要立即弄乾身體及頭髮
- 選擇鬆身、透氣及吸汗力強的衣物,必要時多帶衣物更換
- 戴有大帽沿的太陽帽或傘子
- 帶備保濕噴霧
- 帶備小風扇,但要注意避免固定吹向一個部位
飲食篇:
- 補充適量水份,加片檸檬或薄荷葉可以令人更醒神
- 消暑的水果例如椰青、西瓜、蓮霧、蜜瓜、士多啤梨等可按身體狀況適量食用,記得從雪櫃取出後放置室溫一會才享用;如出現腹瀉或眩暈情況,就代表食材對孕媽媽來說太寒涼了,不宜食用
- 適量食用苦味食物,因其多有清心涼血、健脾利尿以及緩解暑熱的功效,例如苦瓜、生菜、萵筍、芫茜、薄荷葉等
- 每天飲一杯米水,有助強健脾胃,驅走濕氣,紓緩太熱無胃口的症狀
- 避免進食屬性溫熱的食物,例如蔥、薑、蒜、辣椒等香辛料
- 濕熱孕媽媽們更不宜進補

Tips to clear summer heat for expecting mothers
Being pregnant is one of the best experiences in the world, but at the same time, it also causes pregnant moms to feel warm all the time! Especially during summer, pregnant moms’ body temperature tend to be higher than that of the ordinary people.
Yet, pregnant moms should avoid drinking raw and cold beverages as they could hurt the spleen and stomach and accumulate dampness in the body. They might even risk getting the deadly listeria infection from ice cubes in the drink.
Does that mean pregnant moms can only suffer in silence for the sake of their babies?
Here are some tips by Chinese physicians to help you relieve the summer-heat!
Lifestyle:
- can enjoy the air-conditioner but avoid direct cool air; watch out for indoor and outdoor temperature difference and make sure it is not overly extreme because a sudden change in temperature can cause you to fall ill
- swimming can help you cool down but make sure you keep your body dry and blow dry your hair afterwards
- choose clothes that are loose, airy, and sweat-absorbent; bring extra pairs of clothes along with you when necessary
- put on a large hat or carry an umbrella
- carry a moisturizing spray with you all the time
- carry a small fan but avoid blowing directly in one direction
Food:
- drink enough water to hydrate the body; add lemon slices and mints to freshen our mind
- eat fruits that can clear the summer-heat according to our body constitution, for instance, coconut, watermelon, wax apple, honeydew, and strawberry; remember to eat it at room temperature after you have taken them out of the refrigerator; if you experience diarrhea or dizziness, the fruits might be too cold for the pregnant moms
- consume food that are bitter in taste as they can clear heat and cool the blood, strengthen the spleen and promote urination, and relieve the summer-heat; these ingredients include bitter gourd, lettuce, coriander, and mint
- drink a cup of rice water daily as it can help to strengthen the spleen and stomach, eliminate dampness from the body, and improve your appetite during the warm summer season
- avoid eating ingredients that are warm in nature, for instance, onion, ginger, garlic, and chili
- pregnant moms with the damp heat body constitution should avoid eating foods that are over-nourishing

搭巴士坐正冷氣風口位,感到一陣喉嚨痕癢後就咳過不停,這種由冷空氣、感受風寒造成的咳嗽,中醫視之為風寒咳嗽,風的特性是「到處游走,來去無踨」,這種咳嗽就是說咳就咳,難以抑制,咳聲重且長,伴隨症狀為喉嚨痕、痰色白、鼻塞、流鼻水,鼻水較為清稀,治療方法為疏風散寒,宣肺止咳,宜適量食用有辛溫散寒、宣肺化痰止咳功效的食材,例如生薑、蔥白、芫茜、陳皮、蒜頭、紫蘇葉等。避免進食生冷寒涼食物,例如凍飲、冷盤 、橙、梨子、西瓜、馬蹄等,否則咳嗽情況加重 。症狀輕微的話不妨沖泡生薑紅糖茶飲用,有紓緩寒咳的作用,情況持續宜就醫治理。
紫蘇葉薑茶
功效:發汗解表、溫肺止咳、健脾暖胃、散寒活血。
材料:紫蘇葉2塊、生薑4片、紅糖適量
做法:生薑去皮切片,用刀背拍打一下,與紫蘇葉放入保溫瓶,加入熱開水泡10分鐘,最後加入紅糖即可。此茶可反覆沖泡至味淡。

Persistent coughing due to air conditioning?
When we sit right under the air-conditioning vent while travelling on a bus, an itch can develop easily in our throat, and this would cause us to cough continuously. This is due to what Chinese Medicine refer as the wind-cold pathogen.
The wind wanders all about and leaves without a trace. Hence, this kind of cough is very unpredictable and difficult to be treated. Such coughs can also be severe and persistent. Other accompanying symptoms include itchy throat, white phlegm, nasal congestion, runny nose, and clear nasal discharge.
The best way to treat this is to dispel the wind and the cold and facilitate the flow in the lungs. Consume ingredients that are warm in nature to dispel cold, facilitate the flow in the lungs, and stop coughing. These ingredients include ginger, onion stalk, coriander, dried orange peel, garlic, and basil leaves.
Avoid eating raw and cold foods such as chilled beverages, cold appetizers, orange, pear, watermelon, and Chinese water chestnut, as they can aggravate the condition. Individuals with milder symptoms can make some ginger brown sugar tea to relieve a cough, but do consult a doctor if the condition persists.
Purple perilla tea with ginger
Effects: promotes perspiration, warms the lungs and relieves cough, strengthens the spleen and warms the stomach, dispels cold and activates blood
Ingredients: 2 purple perilla tea leaves, 4 slices of raw gingers, brown sugar to taste
Preparation: Peel and cut raw gingers into slices. Pound them with the back of a knife. Put them with purple perilla into thermos. Steep with hot water for 10 minutes and add brown sugar to taste. You can re-brew until its flavor weakens.

如果你有信佛或吃素的朋友,相信有聽過「五辛植物」:蔥、蒜、韭、薤及興渠。佛教認為五辛會助長淫慾及帶來憤怒情緒,妨礙修行,故信佛、吃素的人不宜吃。五辛都是含大蒜素的蔥科植物,蔥包括青蔥、紅蔥、大蔥;蒜包括大蒜、蒜苗;韭包括韭菜、韭菜花、韭黃;薤(音:械)又名蕎菜,是與蔥長得很相似的植物,莖部多製成蕎頭;興渠又名阿魏,是一種不常見的香草。
如果你沒有宗教禁忌,在春天不妨適量食用五辛植物,從中醫角度來看,春天是陽氣生發的季節,人體的陽氣也順應自然而向外抒發,適量進食辛溫發散食材,例如蔥、韭菜或芫茜等,有助促進陽氣升發。惟要注意五辛植物屬性偏溫熱,體質偏熱、陰虛火旺人士不宜多吃,否則容易上火出現口瘡、暗瘡或喉嚨痛等偏熱症狀。
蔥 — 性溫,有發汗解表、健胃殺菌、通陽氣散陰寒作用,能紓緩初起的風寒感冒、鼻敏感、頭痛、胃寒等症狀;體質偏熱、陰虛火旺人士不宜多吃。
蒜 — 性溫,具暖胃、行氣、降血壓、降血脂、殺菌功效,適合感冒病人食用,能紓緩初起的風寒感冒、食滯等症狀。由於屬性溫熱,陰虛火旺、身體有偏熱症狀如口瘡、暗瘡、喉嚨痛者不宜食用;時患眼疾者亦不宜。
韭 — 性熱,具健胃暖中、溫腎助陽、散瘀活血功效;偏寒體質、陽虛怕冷、腰膝酸軟、男士陽事衰弱、尿頻人士、女士陽氣不足以至行經小腹冷痛均可食用。由於性熱,陰虛火旺者不宜食用。
薤(莖部多製成蕎頭) — 性溫,有通陽散結、行氣導滯、理氣寬胸的功效,適合胸悶憋氣胸痛者食用。體弱氣虛者勿食為妥。
興渠 — 又名阿魏,性溫,是一種帶有強烈蔥蒜氣味的香草,用作烹調可去肉類異臭及魚類腥味,亦用於印度泡菜及辣醬中,作藥用有消積、散痞、殺蟲功效。

Consume five types of pungent vegetables to boost yang qi
If you have vegan Buddhist friends, you must have heard of the five types of pungent vegetables: spring onion, garlic, chives, Chinese scallion (‘xie’), and Ferula assafoetida (‘xing qu’). According to Buddhist teachings, eating these five pungent vegetables will boost sexual desire and spark anger, hence disrupting the ascetic lifestyle. This is why vegan Buddhist will abstain themselves from consuming these ingredients.
These five pungent vegetables are actually Allium plants that contain allicin. The spring onion type includes spring onion, shallot and leeks; the garlic type includes garlic leaves and garlic sprout; the chives type includes chives, chives flower, and yellow chives; Chinese scallion is basically a vegetable that looks like onion, and its stem is often turned into Chinese bulbous onion; and Ferula assafoetida, also known as ‘A Wei’ in Mandarin, is a type of rare herbaceous spice.
If you do not view this as a religious taboo, try eating these five pungent vegetables during spring. From the perspective of Chinese Medicine, yang qi will emerge during spring, and the yang qi in the human body will also naturally develop outwards.
Consume an appropriate amount of pungent ingredients such as spring onion, chives and coriander can help strengthen the yang qi. Nevertheless, do note that the five pungent vegetables are hot in nature. Individuals with a heaty body or those who are yin-deficient should not consume excessively, or else heat-related symptoms such as canker sore, acne, and sore throat will develop.
Spring onion - warm in nature. Induces sweating, activates yang qi to dispel yin chill. Relieves early symptoms of wind-chill flu, nasal allergies, headaches, and cold stomach. Not suitable for those with heat-related symptoms, with yin deficiency and excessive internal heat.
Garlic - warm in nature, can warm the stomach, promote qi, lower blood pressure, lower blood fat, and sterilizing. It helps relieve cold and flu, food stagnation at the initial stage. Nevertheless, individuals with heat related symptoms should not consume garlic, such as canker sores, acne and sore throat. It is not suitable for people who suffer from eye diseases
Chives- hot in nature, can warm the stomach, warm the kidneys and nourish yang, relieve bruising and promote blood circulation. Suitable for those with cold body types, yang deficiency, aversion to cold, weak and sore lower back and knees, men with frequent urination, insufficient yang qi that leads to abdominal pain. Due to its hot nature, those with asthenic yin should avoid.
Chinese scallion (its stem is normally turned into Chinese bulbous onion) – warm in nature, can activate the yang qi, clear stagnation, and improve the circulation of the qi. It is suitable for individuals who experience tightness in chest. Those with asthenic qi and body should avoid eating.
Ferula assafoetida – also known as ‘A Wei’ in mandarin; warm in nature, and is a type of herbaceous spice with a strong onion and garlic smell. It can get rid of unpleasant meat odor or fishy smell, be turned into an Indian pickled dish, and be used to make chili paste. Some will use it as a medicine to relieve bruise and clear stagnation. It also has antifungal properties.
