1/ HK's protests have indeed reduced due to the COVID19 and the National Security Law. Hong Kong Government mass arrests protestors, and crackdown on the education, mass media, medical and judicial industries. But, NO, we're not walking the old path of division between different sides in the pro-democracy bloc. In fact, we're winning. Here's why:

2/ In 2014,
- 70% of polls call for the occupation to stop
- Division within Pro-democracy bloc
- Average results in the District Council Election
- Pro-Beijing bloc gained 57% seats in Legislative Council
- CCP's economic diplomacy is doing well
- Few countries support HK

3/ From 2019 till now,
- Pro-democracy bloc swept 85% of the seats in the District Council Election
- it's likely for the pro-democracy bloc to gain more than half of the seats in the Legislative Council Election, which forced the #CCP to cancel the election

Polls did by 香港民意研究計劃 HKPOP request by Reuters showed that
- 70% support an independent investigation committee
- 63% support universal suffrage of the Legislative Council and Chief Executive
- 58% support Carrie Lam to step down
- 56% oppose the riot characterization of the antiELAB Movement
- 49% support the release of the arrested people
- 60% oppose the NationalSecurityLaw
- 31% support the NationalSecurityLaw
- 57% vote for pro-democracy candidates
- 25% vote for pro-government candidates

4/ Normally, public opinion of social movements will reverse after a while, like the #UmbrellaMovement, #BlackLivesMatter and the #YellowVests. But after a year, the majority of public opinion is still on the protestors' side ...

- Jul 1: over 100k people took to the streets
- Jul 11-12: over 610k people vote in the democratic preliminary election

🇨🇦: Showed no sign of thawing with China. Hostage diplomacy continues to deadlock.
🇯🇵: partnered closely with the Five Eyes and acted tougher after 周庭 Agnes Chow Ting was arrested
🇮🇳: border clashes continued and ditched Chinese mobile apps like WeChat, Alipay and Tik Tok.
🇹🇼: international reputation continued to rise after having the least COVID19 confirmed cases in the world with its anti-pandemic policy

7/ #HongKongers have achieved remarkable results fighting against the second-largest, evilest country in the world in just one year. The idea of phoenixism is that we know the chance of winning is low, so we try to increase the costs beard by the #CCP to achieve what we demand.

8/ Everyday we are guided by our thirst for freedom and a sense of duty to bring democracy to our children and grandchildren. So long as we follow that path, we will always be on the right side of history. The island of HK may be small the resolve of its people is anything but.

大概是一兩年前吧，有一次在辦論壇時，跟一位優秀的海軍退役軍官聊到「語言教育」的重要性。

那位曾在海內外打拼的優質軍官曾跟我說過，台灣🇹🇼跟國外軍售後，軍官、士官、志願役士兵，都有機會去國外與盟軍共同訓練。

除了武器設備都是原文，需要扎實的語言學習外， 訓練期間的「溝通語言」，更能學習到一般基本操作、武器操作之外，更深層的交流。

例如: 對美（或其他盟國）軍隊文化的了解，建立長期且穩定的友誼。

教育不僅僅只是教育部、學校的事而已。

「美國國家安全教育項目」由美國國防部資助，從1991年開始，就透過教育，讓美國民眾能增強其在國際間的競爭力及溝通能力。

其中的「美國國家中文領航項目」，則由美國13所優秀的綜合性大學參與，旨於讓美國大學生，未來能具備雙語言、雙文化能力，在教育、經濟、國防安全、外交領域做出貢獻。

很高興能夠與美國國家中文領航項目副主任李明穎女士，就未來協助訓練美方青年在此項目的合作達成共識。

台灣世代智庫 Taiwan NextGen Foundation將會在明年提供中文環境的工作機會，讓美方青年能夠在研究政策、論壇中，使用中文，融入台灣文化，並提供他們主修的專業力，增進兩方關係。

雙語教育的重要性，不是只在一個部會、一個機構、一個部門，也不是針對學齡的學生，在傳統的「學校」場域。

他是跨領域的集合體。

不管是與盟友建立友誼，平時的溝通，這些能力都是極重要的，美方對於語言教育的投資，是以國安的思維在投資。

透過這個機會，也讓我們機構的夥伴，熟悉不同文化、語言背景的朋友，台灣必須融入世界，才能擴大市場，每一步，都值得一起努力。

The The Language Flagship is one of the most prestigious initiatives aimed at promoting language learning and linguistic diversity. I thank Dr. Ming-Ying Li and Mr. Pass Yang, representing of The U.S. Language Flagship Overseas Center in Taiwan, for visiting me and my team at 台灣世代智庫 Taiwan NextGen Foundation this morning.

Our think-tank eagerly anticipates an opportunity to welcome participants in the Chinese Flagship Overseas Capstone Program to our team as interns. During their time at NextGen, these gifted young scholars will have an opportunity to hone their skills in Mandarin Chinese and gain a better understanding of the policymaking milieu in Taiwan.

In light of the fruitful and recently concluded visit of our Czech friends, today's meeting made me think of Tomáš Garrigue Masaryk, whom many Czechs call their "President Liberator." The statesman famously proclaimed: "Kolik jazyků znáš, tolikrát jsi člověkem" - as many languages you know, as many times you are a human being. Language learning helps foster empathy and constitutes a crucial component of peace education.

Given my own background in international security studies, I applaud the US government for its continued support for the National Security Education Program, which also includes The Language Flagship initiative.

【 收合餘燼，背城借一 ──大專學界就白色恐怖時代降臨告港人書 | Resist, however long and hard the road may be - A Letter from Students’ Unions of Higher Institutions to all Hongkongers 】

今日，學生動源前召集人鍾翰林、前發言人何諾恆及前成員何忻諾各自於其寓所內被警察國安部人員上門拘捕，據稱被捕罪名為「煽動他人分裂國家」，亦有消息指可能有更多成員被捕。是次拘捕為國安法自六月三十日生效以來，首次有巿民被國安人員直接上門拘捕。

大專學界於此向全體香港人宣告，白色恐怖年代，正式降臨香港。鍾翰林等人作為白色恐怖下，遭受上門拘捕的第一道破窗，香港人絕不能置若罔聞。大專學界呼籲所有香港人繼續密切關注事件，並警告港共政權勿恣意妄為，因整個國際社會都正在注視著其一舉一動，任何侵犯人權之惡行都必會招來惡果。

未來，可預視將有更多港人身陷赤共魔爪中，但誠如愛爾蘭詩人貝克特所言：「我走不下去了。我會走下去。」香港人必定要秉持若水之志，戰勝恐懼，繼續於最艱難年月中，留一口氣、點一盞燈。過去一年，香港人背城借一、負隅頑抗，已徹底撕破中共的面具，使其邪惡本性原形畢露。天下圍共之勢已成，自由世界已站於香港人一邊。與暴政周旋，不爭朝夕之短長。只要在難彌堅，只要信念不滅，抗爭星火終有燎原之日。我等堅信，香港人終將迎來我城重光之日。

Today, the former founder of Studentlocalism, Tony Chung Hon-lam, the former member, Ho Yan-nok, and the former spokesperson, Ho Nok-hang were arrested in their respective residences by police officers from the National Security Department. Reportedly, they were charged with “inciting secession or undermining national unification”. This is the very first direct home arrest ever since the implementation of the National Security Law on the 30th June.

Hong Kong has fallen into the Era of White Terror. Students’ Unions of Higher Institutions hereby urge Hongkongers not to connive at the atrocities of the communist regime but to stand up against the oppression by any feasible means. To the tyrannical communist puppets, we warn that the world is watching. Any further crimes you commit will not go unseen.

It is crystal clear that more and more Hongkongers would have to endure the Communist terror. But as Samuel Beckett, an Irish poet, said, “I can’t go on. I will go on.” Hongkongers shall uphold the Be-Water spirit and continue to fight on in the darkest times. In the past year, Hongkongers have fought the battle against tyranny as if it was our last, revealing the Chinese communist regime’s true colour and unearthing its malignant nature. The free world has stood with Hongkongers against Communist aggression. Perseverance is vital to winning the war against tyranny. We shall continue defending Hong Kong with hope until widespread of the flames of resistance. May glory be to Hong Kong.
